Well, my second mod has been finished - B&M short shifter installed!

very easy to do and takes about 30mins... the only thing that got in my way was the pushbolt - solved that problem by cutting it with a flat screwdriver and a hammer...

throw decreased from 110mm down to 60mm! (between 3rd & 4rth)

the stick movement is a bit heavier than stock but that is a small drawback...

Looks good mate, but what does a short shift actually do!? Does it quicken up the shift time??

Hey looks good mate! .. Did you manage to knock up a "how to" guide aswell? Cos i'm thinking of buying a TRD short shift aswell, would be good as reference.

Just a question though. Does it make selecting gears more difficult? As the Yaris doesnt have the smoothest gear box as most of us know.

Cheers!

I have the TRD one on my car, same transmission as yours I beleive (C150) and I can confirm it's great. It doesn't make it harder to select gears at all, quite the opposite. Throws are shorter and more direct and the selector clicks into gear very solidly with a satifying sound. None of which was the case before.

It won't make your car faster, but I enjoy driving my car even more every day for having it. I can recommend the TRD one heartily.

It shortens the "throws" or the distance you need to move the selector between gears. Most, like the TRD unit, replace several bushings and other parts making the selector less loose and more precise and "stiffer" feeling as it goes through the motions.

It does quicken shift time up a bit because throws are shorter and a little more "well guided" so you have a bit more confidence to really slam it into gear on the run, but I wouldn't consider it a real performance part per se, it's not going to make your car measurably faster or anything.

does the throw points decrese or is it just a short stick ?

Throw points actually decrease on the TRD one, I can tell you that.

It's not an enormous difference but it's impossible not to notice. I beleive it's 30% shorter.

B&M short shifter: Those that cannot scratch ankles with hands while standing straight need not apply. :P

as I've said... throw length decreased form around 110mm to 60mm - that is very good :)

the stick has a shorter upper side and longer lower side... you put bushings under the stick housing to make the longer low side fit... that makes the shorter movement of the upper half produce a longer movement of the lower side and thus shortening the throw length and making the stick seem heavier... ;)

very simple kit and really works... looks better too... :)
