Hi,

Looking for ways to reduce understeer (apart from slowing down). I'm considering a gmax suspension kit to drop the ca by ~30mm. Will this help?

Cheers,

ICE

most definately yes!! i put the gmax kit on my 1.3 GL its transforms the car even tho there was no power, its being taken off and put onto the GTi in the near future :D :D looking forward to it immensely. just one thing is the drop of 30mm wont make much of a difference to the look of the car (if ur worried about that) but its well worth it for the grip u gain :thumbsup:

not really.

Understeer is caused by the front tyres not having enough traction to turn the car in the direction of the wheels...

Lowering the car WILL make the car handle better, and allow it to corner faster.

BUT

the quickest and easiest way to minimise understeer is:

DRIVE SMOOTHLY, avoid sharp or dramatic steering input.

Also, buy some decent tyres - you would be amazed at the difference a good set of rubber will make to your cars handling.

I would second that :yes::yes::thumbsup:

make it stiffer at the front than the back - it makes it less understeer prone (in theory!)

also, just go into corners slower, then build up speed. if its an AE92 you have, then you've virtually the same car as me, and mine certainly doesn't have an understeer problem - only if you pile in way too fast

How much harder is the ride? Does it make it uncomfortable? Am I gonna get ear ache from the missus? :rolleyes:

Im currently on standard size tyres i.e. 14 inches. Would I need larger wheels to benfit from the suspension? What rubber would you recommend for 14/15 inch wheels?

no - you dont need more rubber, bigger wheels or lower springs...

Heres the thing - 2 identical tyres will have completley different level of grip. So, if you want to corner fast - buy the best tyres you can afford. Look for sports tyres rather than winter ones (such as the Dunlop SP9000).

And as i said, try driving smoothly, you would be amazed how much faster you can go if your smooth and progressive with the controls..
