Avensis Starting Problems

Hi

I hope someone can help, my avensis is having a few problems, the worst one is the thing won't start and run, when i turn the key the starter kicks in and it turns the engine over and if i'm lucky it may start and run for about 3 seconds.

I've checked theres a spark and there is fuel getting to the injector rail, is there any common problems that could cause them not to run? lambda sensor? immobiliser problems? alarm? my main dealer is crap and don't want to take it to them!

Its a 1998 R reg 1.8 hatchback.

Any help or ideas would be a great help

Take it to a little local garage...perhaps get a recommendation from a friend. I'm sure they'll take a look at it for you. The servicing i get from my local mechanic is far superior to the dealer, and a third the price.

Hi

Hi All,

Well it looks bad.The garage still can't get the thing to start so i popped no my nearest Toyota dealer and didn't like what i heard.

They reckon it could be the fuel management system stopping fuel getting through so the engine won't flood or the immobilizer. The only way to tell is to get it on the computer to check. It might just need a software download or worse case a new ECU (£600 +),problem is they're 20 mile away and don't collect so a tow will cost at least another £80 so i might just get rid.

Anyway if i find anything will let you know...
