More Alram Problems...

Hey guys, just wondering if anyone else had experienced problems with the alarms on their carinas or avensis' cause both cars we have seem to have the same problem. When we set the alarm, we only get to about two minutes before its going off, regardless of whether its been touched or not. An old mate from work, who also happened to be one of the UK's Toyota apprentices of the year in his full time job, reckoned it was something to do with the setting, and it would just need a minor adjustment. However, the previous owner of my Carina got a quote for the job, and they reckoned it would cost about £400 to fix... Now i reckon this is a tad pricey considering i can get a fully featured alarm bought and fitted for that price, with many more additional features than the standard alarm. Is this a job I can do myself (fixing the standard alarm) or is best left to a pro?

I wanna get an alarm sorted on the car ASAP before I start modifying it, cause i dont want some punkass pikey nicking my wheels or stereo or something.

Hi there, just thought I would let you know that I also had problems with my alarm :censor: on my toyota carina e gti when I first bought it and ended up getting a new alarm and immobiliser fitted (TOAD C5-T2) as a cheaper option and as it was cat1 it also reduced my insurance by £110 per year  so as a long term investment it is far better to replace than repair.:thumbsup::thumbsup:

thanks mate, i was thinking that...

however as i plan on dehandling the doors and delocking them i might wait and do this immediately as my first mod, before i do anything else cause i could get the installation guys to wire up a button on the alarm fob to pop the door solenoid... thatd be kinda cool, dontcha think???

After 2 years of faultless operation, the alarm on my Carina e started going off in the middle of the night etc. After consulting the owners manual I started pressing the remote lock button on the keyfob twice whenever I locked the car. The second press resulted in a single, longer flash of the lights. My understanding is that this disables the interior motion sensor ... or something like that. Since then, the problem has gone away. It's a bit of a nuisance having to do 2 keyfob presses each time, but hey, lifes not perfect.

Just a thought, why not find out which alarm has this functonality, upgrade the alarm now so at least your protected and when you de-locak the doors you could get the solenoids plugged into the alarm then, best of both worlds....

until the Battery goes flat and you cant get in, or the solenoid fails.....

All my driving life i've been involved in the Custom car scene and seen this happen so many times.

P.S. dont forget that by LAW you must have a visible mechanical means of entry to your car. A rip cord type thing in the front wheel arch or elsewhere is popular and although its not exactly visible, at least its there !

hahaha, yeah i must admit it is a concern, i probably shouldnt be getting too ahead of myself! i think rhaines is right, i should look for s system which has the functionality to do this should i ever want to, in the meantime i could simply colour code the handles and delock the doors...

ive just bumped up my hours in my work so ive got cash to splash in the coming months :P

i wanna at least have the wolfrace matrix wheels and suspension sorted by the end of the summer :P
