Was it only 'emissions' that it failed on?

If so i'm supprised they didn't 'let it go' if it was only that ...they usually do with an older car... ...allegedly ;)

Firstly was the car 'warmed up'? before the probe was stuck up it's exhaust?

Secondly take the air filter element out (or performance filter off if fitted) as a 'quick trick' just for the test.

If nether of the above works then turn the mixture screw down a little on your carbuettor just for the 'test' (car will probably be 'chugging a bit afterwards) then after you've got your 'Pass/ticket' turn it back up when you get back home to how it was running before.

All the above I have done myself with some older cars... ...allegedly  , but not that old because if car is pre 1975 then emission part is not performed/required.

As far as i'm concerned the 'Emission part' of the M.O.T Test is complete 'b :censor: locks' as it's not a safety item. Brakes, suspension, tyres etc are and need to be checked as could be dangerous. However a car with high emissions ain't as harmful as lets say what a power station chucks out.

Sorry for the last little rant. I'm a strong believer of sensible vehicle safety regulations but not for burocratic rubbish they are now adding to the test.

Some carbs have a C02 adjustment screw.

Being stuck in a time warp  I was not aware of that, with me when it comes to Carbs, its simple things like SU, WEBBER and AMAL.

As said before I am only reciting from my own experiances from my years of motoring.
