Has anyone experience of fitting a plug-in retuning chip to the Denso injection system of a current model, 1995cc 116 ps, D4D? At which connection did you tap in? How is the type of the connector defined?

Hi,

I have had a Tunit VCR fitted to my 110bhp Avensis Vermont D4d for a year now. From the outside it looks like a normal Avensis, but with just an added high flow air filter and the Tunit I had it dyno tested at 142 bhp.

Basically it goes like stink and the fuel economy is improved by 5mpg which is great, the engine is slightly quieter too.

The only downside is the D4D engine is quite sensitive and at first it cut out a few times on full boost, but a bit of tinkering has fixed that. The results on my car will probably be better than the new D4D because the new Avensis is heavier, but midrange torque is easily as good as the new Audi/VW diesel engines because I've driven them. Well worth a look because of the extra power and you can take it off and put it on any subsequent diesel Toyota you buy.

Thank you for your comments. At the moment, I'm dealing with Dragon (www.mrhoot.co.uk) who offer a much cheapeer product (£260) which is claimed to boost bhp from 116 to 146. It can be adjusted with a screwdriver. The problem is, they don't seem to know what type of connector to fit to allow it to be plugged into the common rail pressure sensor. The other problem is that this connection (I think) is hidden pretty inaccessibly under the metal stub for the top radiator hose. Even if the hose were taken off, I'm not sure that it would be possible to plug in here. Does anyone know?
