Shamless Avensis Production Problems!

All Toyota/Avensis drivers,

I've bought new Avensis D-4D in Dec. '04 by a local representative Toyota office in Belgrade, Serbia & Montenegro (former Yugoslavia).

After 10.000 km (five months) of a normal business higway/city driving I've spotted the corrosion of the following:

-complete engine block!?

-front/rear suspension

-exaust sys,

and also failure of the turbine!

This was all concluded by the local representative. They pictured it and send it to Toyota Europe, Belgium.Four weeks have passed since than and I still don't have any answer. The guys from Belgium asked where the car was driven and also the pictures of the streets?!

Since I am a tech. ing. I'm familiar with this material problems and it is due to the quality of the material.

I use this car as one of the cars(also Ford,Skoda) in my own company and all the cars have the same, perfect maintenance, but only one with problems is Avensis, which is the newest.

I demanded a completly new car, since this are too many problems for one car.I think that this is due to the problems during the production, but it was hidden by them probably.

Whom can I write that will affect Toyota, cause this is a shame for Toyota, which thinks that they have the best quality and pre-checking in the world!

Wish you all the best road conditions!

Ok Vlada,

It's very strange, all you said. I live in Portugal and never heard of anything like this. It is very important to know where the car was built. Portuguese Avensis always comes from British factory. In some countries it comes from Japan. I've heard that they make it now in China too. Well, if it is true it will be dissapointment for many future buyers. Try to find out where it was built. I guess there is a factory in belgium too. I can say this: No problem with British built Avansis

Agree with Bosnj

I have bought Toyotas since 1992, and in that time have had a Carina E (early Japanese-built model), 2 x mark 1 Avensis (British Built), face-lifted mark 1 Avensis, and am now driving a 2004 Avensis T2.

In terms of build quality and attention to detail, my current car is the best, however I have had no problems with any of my Toyotas.

My wife also had a face-lifted mark 1 Avensis, and now drives a 2003 mark 2. She has had no problems either.

I doubt that Toyota build the T25 Avensis anywhere else but in Burnastone in UK. The new Avensis is the first Toyota that is imported to Japan.

I'm really surprised to hear that someone could have such problems!

I also own an Avensis since October 2004.

Tomorrow I shall go to have the checking for 15,000Km.

Until now, although I don't keep it in a garage, I haven't noticed such problems, and, believe me, we've had snow and my car has "met" a lot of salt...

What I've heard as a complaint from somebody who has already run 60,000Km with his Avensis, was that his breaks are squealing, although he's changed the brake pads.

He has said that a mechanic told him it happened due to the rust formed on the brake disks.

After hearing him, I have checked at my car, but cannot say I've seen rust.

Anyway, I don't drive long distances, but I drive it daily.

Tomorrow I shall check if there is any rust under the car.

Regarding the production, I can tell that I have been informed as follows:

Yaris - France

Corolla Hatchback - Great Britain

Corolla Limousine - Turkey

Avensis - Great Britain

I have obtained this information from the Toyota dealers in Bucharest, in 2 separate showrooms.

As personal impression, I like my "Black Cat" as I call it.

If you want me to criticise it, no problem - the designers didn't find the best position for the ashtray - on your way to the ashtray you "meet" the gearbox handle, which makes me spread the ash in lots of places beside the tray...

But, I know a solution for this: quit smoking!

Regarding your complaint, I think the best solution is to write an e-mail at Toyota Headquarters in Japan, with the pictures in attachment, including the pictures of the streets that they requested.

But, I believe that your local dealer should be your best guide in this, since surely such problems are not encountered as a usual matter.

I've heard that Toyota intends to become No.1 around the world by 2010.

This goal surely makes them sensitive at such problems as you have encountered.
