Car Alarm?

How do I find out if my car is alarmed? Sounds strange I know but the car locks on a key fob (lock / unlock buttons) which I assume are part of the immobilizer?

When locking / unlocking the car there are no flashes from headlights etc just the doors locking....

Where in the engine compartment is the alarm?

What does it look like?

Does the SE have one?

Apart from smashing a window, how do I check if it works?

Any response is very welcomed.

Thanks

Ian

Once you take your key out of the igition the immobliser is activated.

It dosen't sound like you have an alarm or if you have it is not connected.

Simplest way to find out is sit in your car and activate the central locking, wait about 30 seconds (circa time for alarm to arm) and then move about. If alarm is activated it will go off.

Also, you should be able to see the sensors mounted inside, normal install has them mounted at the top of the pillar between windscreen drivers/passenger windows (although this is not always the case). In the engine compartment you should be able to see the alarm itself again normally (but not always) mounted on the body at the back (when you are looking from the front of the car).

Hope some of this helps.

I had the same problem on mine, I knew it had an immobilisor but wasn't sure about the alarm. I couldn't see any sensors, or see the alarm box in the engine bay. Easy way to check (this is what I did anyway) is pull the bonnet release and then lock the car up. When the car is locked then open the bonnet from the outside and the alarm should go off.

Hope this helps.

Mike.
