Colour!

Hey everyone,

The time has arrived to choose a colour for my Supra and I'm at a loss- there's just so many to choose from! I suppose what I'm after really is finding out what the least common colour is for supras generally- orange is out (due to F&F) as is blue as the other show cars that it will be on stand with are mainly blue... Was very tempted by the Rage paints but I'm thinking that they and other flips/chameleons will be falling out of fashion as fast as they came in....what's the general opinion on this??

Seen a couple of nice greens- there's a Honda colour "Irish Green Metallic" or something so I was thinking about that with a heavy silver pearl in it maybe.... what do people think?

Cheers!

IMHO I reckon it would look superb in a deep metallic purple, flat colour with class and not to often seen on a supra :)

Of course that's just my opinion, would look the puppies plums though...

Hey,

Thanks for that...probably should have mentioned this before actually but dark colours could be a bit of a no go- the kit is a one off custom fibregalss jobbie with lots of directional changes and shape to it and dark colour tend to lose the styling impact.... but thank you for your input...it's has been registered in the voting polls lol!!

Light colours on such a big car IMHO don't look quite right, am racking my brains for something that might go....

Silver is boring, rage/flip paints too expesnive if you get a chip and as you say won't last forever... Light metallic blue might go but not convinced...

The Supra likes dark colours, might help if we had a piccy to work with ? Then can play in photoshop and test a few colours out :)

Standox exlusive range only 1200 made of one colour worldwide, they currently have 11 different paints in that range to choose from but it ain't cheap.

Or go for a special efex paint like mine comes in about 40 different colours and when the light hits it the whole car it shimers in different shades.

Hmm, pictures to date are not gonna be much help... it's a state, covered in styling foam and dust!! Plus (and this is gonna sound stupid so I appologise for the blondness now, especially bad from a IT chick) but how the hell do you get a picture on here?? But I could put a couple of "in progress" shots up here as long as you all keep it a secret- or I'll get shot... no-ones supposed to see it until it's done!!! lol

Like I say, blues are out sadly...oh and yellows/golds too, our Golfs yellow :(

How do I find out about these limited run paints? Saw a SUpra at the modified nationals at the weekend with a paint job like that- looked amazing in the sun but a bit 'muddy' in shadow, mind you the base was black so.....Plus the other issue is that it'll have to be a colour that we can mix with out Du Pont mixing system really else it will push the budget way over limit...unless I can get it cheap down the sponsorship route, which seems to be working well at the moment!!

I'll go to the paint shop tomorrow and find out who makes the special efex paint for mine,it cost £470 for the paint alone which i thought was a bargain and i only found out tonight the total number of coats was 27 :o

The best tip i can give is find out where the bodyshop you are using gets their paint from and go and have a look at their colour cards, pic a colour and then walk away and think about it for a few days.

Under £500? That is good!! Sounds like they had fun woth coverage though!! Been flipping through colour charts all afternoon/evening and nothings grabbed me, that's the problem!! If you get a chance to find out that's be great!! Do you have any close up pics of yours at all??

Only just managed to get pics sorted today,i'm posting full pics tomorrow. The problem you have is with pics it doesn't show how the car shimers in sunlight.I've just got back from a twin bay cruise to hull and the amount of sore necks i've caused was admorable

The paint was at cost because my friend did it who has his own bodyshop but he has said he is never painting another car in that colour because orange is a pita to cover a car.

 Thanks ryan.It is hard to tell from a pic how a colour changes, number 3 was taken in the sunlight though so is most probably the best to see it change in a pic.

The paint is made by Lechler coatings in Italy. The uk office is Lechler coatings ltd

To get good pics of mad paint jobbies:

Polarising lens, really bright sunlight shining from the side, good angle and then loads of polarisation you can get the flip running down the side of the car- works well for all mad paint jobs including the rage metalflakes....
