Calling All Toyota Staff... Or Anyone Else

Anyone out there able to sort out my predicament?

I've bought a green toyota wire loom (£15) thats required for installing rear Speakers (for TS). I thought it was the long wire that runs all the way to the boot but its not. Apparently, the long wire i need only comes with the toyota rear Speakers themsleves.

So what do i do about connecting rear alpine Speakers to a standard head unit? I wanted to use toyota's cable and snip the ends off in the boot. To make it look like a proper toyota jobby instead of a 21 year old saving on toyota's over the top prices.

What happens if this cable in my other yaris gets cut? Do they charge me £50 for a full new speaker set? I think not.

Any suggestions?

Just go to Halfords and get some off the rolls, I think it's about £2 a metre, and 5 metres is more than enough. It's not crap stuf either it's decent thick wiring.

What about actually pluging it into the head unit though? The alpine Speakers come with a loada wire so should be ok. But can you get universal connectors for them or something?

I was wanting to make it look like a toyota job as much as possible.

Surely toyota can supply the cable i'm after?

You mean spade connectors i think?...

Again get yourself to Halfrauds for some wiring, and the connectors available from Maplin or other good wiring shops near you *ding - batteries not included, terms and conditions apply*

Urrrm.... ISO adapter?... I'm really not sure... If you (again) went to Halfords and asked for a Adapter for a Toyota (Perhaps need Yaris specific) they should be able to get you one for sub £15 i expect..

Do you mean connecting the head Unit to the system, or the Speakers to the head unit?...

To connect the Speakers use the adaptor you already have and cut the wires and connect the extra wiring using little electrical connector blocks. there is no other way to do it, and no point in paying extra from toyota.

How does the wiring loom connect to the standard HU, if it only clips in then the above is easy, and can easily be taken out when it's time to sell the car.

No one's going to be looking at your wiring, and you'r only connecting speaker wire not live wires if your worried, plus it's hidden behind the dash and wires are hidden under the sill.

The wire i've got divides the channels though. So when you adjust the fade (-15 to +15) the four front Speakers becomes - and the rears are +. Without rears the windscreens are + and the doors are -. If u get what i mean.

The wire loom? it just pushes and clicks in like all the wires that are connected to the dash that you remove.

When I did it... I chopped off the connector that splits off the two extra Speakers on that little £15 wiring loom and soldered on two new connectors... then soldered the male/female equivalent to the speaker wire and connected them up...then ran the the speaker wire to the back of the car and into amp.....

*shrugs... worked for me!

One toyota garage suggested that but i need to look after the warrenty. They weren't sure if it would cause any problems if done that way. They mentioned doing it but dont wont to pay them labour!

I wasn;t wanting to cut any cables myself if i could help it. Just plug it in and its done.
