I'm about to start converting my 1979 RA40 Lt Celica to a GT. Mainly by replacing the old engine and putting in an 18R-G engine. Has anyone done this before? Is it hard? Are there any major incompatibilities or problems?

try posting in the classic toyota forum, plenty of TEC guys hanging around there. Bob King will no doubt know for sure.

There may be some posts in either the Celica or Classic section as an old emmber called Scot did pretty much the same thing before putting a piston through the block at combe and rebuildnig the 18R-G and boring it out from 1.6 to 1.9 ltr...

It can and has been done so should be some info here. FYI Scot gave up on the 18R and ended up putting a S14 SX200 Turbo engine in the Celica which is still a work in progress :D
