Door Protector Strips?

I was reading on the Prius forum that someone had bought a new Prius and had side protection strips fitted at the Toyota dealership to try and protect against dings from other doors, shopping trolleys, etc.

Is there such an option available for the Avensis - one thing that puts me off buying one is the enormous area of 'bare' metal on the side of an Avensis which, in the minute car spaces we have in the UK, just seem to scream out "Ding me, ding me!".

I read somewhere on here that the strips are now available from the dealers. They have been standard on the Jap export models since day 1.

I have a feeling that they will become standard on the next facelift.

Touch wood I havent had a problem with dings although I had the same reservations as you before I bought the car

It seems the 'fashion' now with alot of new cars to have these big doors with no protection whatsoever - I think it is all to do with the look of the car from a catch your eye POV but, here in the UK, it is just nuts with all the dings that you can get here, there and everywhere.

Side strips available from mrT. code GB NGA -PO 096 -(PAINT CODE). Have ordered a set £ 129.00

Against the price of respraying a door its cheap.

Have now got my TTE grill fitted. 18" khan replicia. TTE sports spoiler, and privacy glass. looks well if i do say so myself. next step 35mm drop on apex springs. Before my credit card melts.

Liam, have you got a pic of the TTE grill fitted? I'm kinda interested for my Avensis T3-X but haven't seen any pics of one yet :crybaby:

Soon as i figure out my new digital camera will post pictures, but will have to figure out how to do that too. It looks well changes the front and makes a change from the norm just had to paint the pipes behind the grill as the drew your eye too much to them. think they were aircon pipes or something.

Well at least they didn't do the usual trick with a new model and release the first year's model with black protectors so they can upgrade the range to colour-coded the next year.

Door protectors don't always help as the longer part of the door that hits your car is often above the protector strip. I remember I had my Corolla for just 3 weeks (4 years back), parked far from the supermarket doors in a space without a car in sight. Got back 20 mins later and there was a wacking great crease on the side, and no guilty party to be seen.

Only the other day I saw some tosspot do it to someone else's car. I remember a long time ago that my father had a new 2.4 litre V6, top spec Volvo 7 series, £30,000 and great limo-like paint. You got people in the car park actually resting their shopping on the bonnet as they got into their cars. Death's too good for 'em -- err, I mean they should be more socially aware.

They are alike, the surround is colour coded to match the car and it has wire mesh. my little nephew is going to upload the pictures for me at the weekend.

Just clocked up enough miles on my new Avensis to get the first oil change done. Checked with the dealer RE door strips. Very available since you can even get them here in Finland. Apparently they come in grey and black; I suppose the grey ones are for painting.

The cost? 400 euros, about half labour. But then, this is an expensive country.

Since my car was only a week old before it had a little dint in a rear door that looked like someone had shot it with an air gun, I think I'll be getting the strips. There was an Avensis in the dealership's car park with them fitted and it looked quite decent -- the strips are about the same shape as and fitted in line with those inserts in the bumpers. This is also at the height where the doors stick out most and a good height to stop other people's doors. It looks as if the Avensis was designed with the door strip option in mind.

The car will look a little different, but not bad, even if I do like the way it looks at the mo. But I've found the looks aren't worth the worry every time I park!

(besides, the little dint I have (being on the widest part of the door) will hide nicely under the strips).

Nice looking car Liam, the grille looks spot on, did you paint the surround or did it come black? I kinda like the chrome on the original, its just the slats that look bring, I think mesh looks so much better. Did I spot the chin spoiler on the front as well? under your home made mesh job? I take it those are TTE stickers on the rubbing strips, can't quite read them. Wheels look fantastic, whats the ride like, I had a run in a friends T spirit ands that was very ....firm.. compared to mine  Sorry to ask so many questions, buts its nice to find someone else who's had a bit of a go at the new Avensis, That spoiler looks so much better than mine, but I was assured that type wouldn't fit on a hatch...dammit!

Nice Car Liam :)

As asked before... are they actual TTE side protection strips (can't see them listed on the site) or have you just put a TTE Badge on them?

Also can I ask a few questions:

1- Has the car been lowered (TTE springs?) or is it just the 18" wheels that give the effect of it looking lower.

2- What is that spoiler? Looks great.

Yes indeed, very nice looking car.

I was going to get the smaller type spoiler installed on the boot but that one you have looks the business. I have seen this type on TTE's website, is your one the same.

TTE Rear Spoiler

Would also be interested to find out where you got the side protector strips.

THANKS FOR ALL THE POSITIVE COMMENTS.The spoiler is toyotas very own, and yes is saloon only.Think its about £300 but got them to throw it in on the deal. The car is lowered 35mm on apex springs leaves it quite low,so have to be careful crossing cerbs.A little rubbing on the front with severe humps on the road. but trimmed of a piece of the inner plastic, its fine now. as for the front splitter, MR T wanted nearly £200 so got the oe. one painted with the rear spoiler looks fine would be prob. be more noticeable on a non black car. The door protection strips are Toyotas they come colour coded for all colours. Added the TTE badges myself. The apex springs were £97. TTE ones were nearly £200. +VAT. Didnt add side skirts skirts as i thought they were not worth the money and t3x sides are colour coded anyway.Next step tuning box, so any advice on types and prices welcome.

Hi Knuti,

I find it hard to believe you can't get them in Norway -- I got mine from Finland (Tampere), and what we can get, you can certainly get. Cost was around 400 euros painted. I've seen several others on the road. Your best bet would be to go back to the dealership and insist they make enquiries. They do exist and they are from Toyota.

If you get desperate:

http://www.toyota.fi/tammerauto/

Seems the address has changed thanks top the athletic champs -- can't find local dealer info, but your guys can always call Helsimki!

GB NGA-PO 096-GZ (GZ) is the paint code for mine in black. If you have a problem e-mail toyota direct that is what I done to get the code for my TTEfront grill ,which toyota UK could not find on there system until i gave them the code i recieved via e-mail. Hope this helps. And they are all listed each with its own code thus all must come colour coded.

Sorry Knuti -- your request seemed an easy one, but I can't find the quote or invoice. That must be because my accountant has them! I'll let you know if they turn up.

Mine weren't ready-painted. My dealer said they come in black, or in grey if they are to be sprayed (colour-coded to your car). Seems so odd that in a little nation of 5 million, my dealer knew exactly what I meant in my bad Finnish and found them straight away. He even showed me a mechanic's car that had them in the car park. Then again, since we treasure reliability here, the Avensis and Corolla are the most sold in their class.

Got it!

7573105901 and 7574205901

2 of each. These are for the grey, unpainted parts.

The codes could be country-specific, but then the stuff for Finland and Norway could well be supplied from Sweden.
