just wondering how much extra bhp can be gained from tuning a st202?????

with 173bhp standard, surely it can hit 200bhp+!!!!and what mods would it take to get it

there?!?!?!?!?!also how fast will the gearbox let you go????i've had mines at 145mph and it

seemed there was a wee bit more left in it!unfortunately i run out of road, living in the far

north of scotland there's only a few choice roads for this sort of speeds :( luckily not so many speed cameras

Unfortunately unless your charge it somehow your not gonna get much over 220 bhp max.

I had the same problem, so i sold the st202 and bought a GT4.

:D

220bhp will do me for now!!!i'm only 23 so insurance for a gt4 is out the window!!!!i was quoted £2800 fully comp for one so its defo no way!!!!

what all would have to be done to get my car to 220bhp??

i mean thats fast enough, will probably give a standard uk spec imprezza a run for its money!!!!

how much power was your st202 producing and what all did you do to it?!?!?!?

220bhp is a little high. Your better off aiming for around 200bhp for a car thats still nice to drive. Will not be cheap though, as its already good from the factory to have 173bhp from a 2.0. Will not be cheap either. You want some headwork done, and some higher lift cams. Idealy you need a full aftermarket ecu as well, which can be v expensive. I do not know too much about the 3sge though, someone on here may no more.

My car was running 200bhp. I had a blitz induction kit, superchip, blitz exhaust and trd Iridium sparks.

Im only 20 and i have my GT4, you wont believe this but next year my premium is going to be about £950!!!

I am 3rd party though. Who are you with? Im with Adrian Flux.

I would get a HKS induction kit for your car because its less restrictive than the blitz one, also i would get a adjustable fuel pressure regulator and a decat.

Give fensport a call and they will tell you the same, you could always replace the engine for a 3sgte, fensport do this.

Or fit a supercharger, apparently the one that blitz do for the gen7 celica can fit a gen 6 gt with slight modification i have been told.

thats mental, only 20 with insurance like that!!!!i'm with brunel at the moment, still in my dads name,i've gotta wait to the end of this policy and i should get full no claims cos i've been driving my work van for over 5 yrs!!

well,so they tell me!!

been considering my options about my car cos some ***** dented the back quarter panel infront of the back passenger wheel, right on the line of the body work and i can't get it fixed properly without a respray  !!!!

so a gt4 is a possibility, the damage done is ****** me off too much to keep the car and i don't want to respray it because of the cost!!!

is your gt4 a jap import??

i seen one on the auto trader site for £7495 with 59000 miles, white wrc edition, just like yours!!!totally standard

gorgeous looking car

think i'd be better off buying one, with the cash needed to tune my st202 to a reasonable standard, and get the damage repaired,i'd probably save a fair bit!!!

My car is a jap import, you know they are more powerful than the uk and us ones!

Some say its cuz the japs run 100ron fuel but thats bull.

You sound like your going the same way as me, but be careful. £7495 for a wrc sounds VERY cheap. Check for damage spots and that the engine is ok. Because at that price i would buy it STRAIGHT AWAY! A white one too, they are probably the rarest colour.

The 4WD and turbo make all the diffrence, also tuning is more potential.

I am aiming for 400-450bhp before christmas!

If only i can source me a 4WD 6 speed box from somewhere.

only 23 so can't afford insurance for a gt4? i was 21 when i got my mr2 turbo, insurance group 18 and engine mods (260bhp), 1300 fully comp.

220bhp in an n/a will give pretty ******* driveability i'd have thought, all the power would have to be up even higher due to running high lift cams.

Go for the GT4, been trying to tune my ST202 for about 8 months now and i think without spending major cash 200BHP is about all your going to see. Wanteda GT 4 myself but when some git in a R5 turbo cut clipped my car, sent me into a curb and then ****** off i had to claim on my own insurance, now at 24 its about £2300 fo the GT4. i %$(en hate little boys in their go karts.

I was unaware you could get 3rd party only on a car valued over a couple of grand.

As he said he is in Brunei. Hence, £7,500 seems reasonable for a WRC. Location, location, location.

Have a look at www.celica-club.co.uk

Simmo on there has fitted a supercharger to his ST202. Dyno results are due this week I think but it should be over 250bhp. He has put a lot of time and effort into it.

Unfortunately the vehicle is only insured for

£5000.

Anything above that and it is full comp only and i cant afford it. Next year im 21 so the diffrence should be enough to afford to insure it full comp for the full value, i've had the car valued at £10k!

  • 2 weeks later...

My st202 in standard form was rolling roaded at 184 bhp.

I've got a blitz induction kit for it (from my old st182) which is not yet fitted and a Jun superlight flywheel on it's way from Japan. At the moment it has a powerflow cat replacement pipe which makes a fifference. An HKS superheader and a Blitz tt realize exhaust will get my breathing sorted. A dastek unichip will bring it all together and I would expect over 200 bhp. Do not touch the head - they are good straight from the factory - if anything cam it. HKS do 256,264 and 272 profile cams and adjustable cam gears.

P.s. thanx to gt4_wrc for pointing me in this direction (e-bay roolz man) ;)

gt4s only had more power in jap land because of the fuel. they did a wrc spec one which was more powerful because of some extra mods, but the standard gt4 power is the same uk and jap. the higher the ron you run the more bhp you get, that's why you get race spec fuel and octane boosters.

Sorry guys i cant agree with that. The jap ST205's are quite a bit more powerful than the UK and US cars.

And i doubt VERY much its fuel. There is as much as 20hp diffrence in some models.

Higher RON is going to play a part but not by that much of a hp difference. I had my car dyno'ed when it came into the country and it was running super unleaded 97 ron and still put out over 260bhp. That was stock.

The facts stand that the UK/US is 239bhp (approx) and the Jap car is between 255-265bhp.

No offence inteded here my friend but You have got to be nuts to have 3rd party on a super car like yours.

I know it costs a lot at your age with full comp and a powerful car but if the worst happens it will pay for itself. You would be gutted to get just £5000 back from an insurer if it got nicked or written off by someone.

Turning 21 will NOT guarantee a massive reduction in the premiums. I went past 25 before I saw a significant drop. And all the insurance companies said that you have to be nearer 30 before you can be in a reasonable price bracket.

And what with your mods and intentions the insurers will be having coronaries and getting their calculators out.

Love the car though bud.:thumbsup:

 Thanks Dude

But thats what everyone says, but it does.

My premium is half this year than last year. Anyway i am going fully comp this year because of the car's value.

200 brake*

just look on the internet for air filters, superchips (be better going to a garage) and exhaust systems for your engine code. The 2.0GT is 3SGE the 2.0 non-GT is 3SFE. Plus look for a de-cat to go with your system or maybe if you know a decent garage have them make one.

AND i'm 22 and it will cost 860 quiddies to insure a GT4 cuz i was thinking about selling my st202, that was with churchill. If they told you 2,200 their trying to rinse you.
