hello,

I'm looking for my first car and have settled on a starlet. I will probably opt for the later models (97-98).

Is there a list of all the varients and the differences between them,(ie- sportif, cd, sr etc).

I was very interested in the SR but I would be pushing my budget to afford them plus they are very rare.

Also are parts hard to source for this model? All I would be looking for is lowering springs, a new backbox and a rear spolier.

So if I were to buy a starlet, what varent would you recommend?

Any help appreciated. Thanks

if you can get the sr, get that. if not, the rest of the cars offer pretty similar specs and just vary on alloys/power steering, electric windows and sunroofs.

if its your first car, as painful as this may sound i wouldn't bother with the backbox or the spoiler. they aren't going to make you go any faster and hence in monetary terms not worth it.

i would get a new seat though! the starlet seats are like park benches. :(

If I couldn't get the SR, then I'd settle for any starlet with PAS and electric windows. Nah I'm not going to try and sqeeze any performance out of it, I'll save for when I buy a GT, the spoiler and backbox were just for the appearance.

Would a Glanza interior fit straight into a starlet?

i believe it does.

at least if you get a starlet you will be a bit different to all the chavs in there ****ed out old civics, or there fiestas, corsas and saxo ect.

Aye thats one of the things that attracted me, they still have a level of class left. Plus they probably haven't the <the spuds of lurrrrvve>s driven out of them

I would try and look at the sr if your looking at putting a back box and spoiler on the sr has a remun (badged TTE) back box and the TTE rear spoiler also the springs are change to give a slightly lower sportier feel.

Aye they would cost the same in the long run since I would be putting some stuff onto it. Is the SR the only N/A Starlet model with a rev counter or do they all have rev counters?

my advice would be 2 buy an sr.are you in da north or south

I'm in the south. I will be travelling over to buy one. I have checked the VRT already and its good. Aye I'll try and get an SR. There's a nice one in the autotrader at the moment. It probably won't be there by the time I get over though.

Yes the SR is a n/a model and it has a rev counter. TO be honest, the SR comes nicely as a first car

as was said above i belive that the sr only comes with a rev counter. i wanted a starlet, but coulnt afford the sr, so i got the base model as i figured id be changing the exhaust/alloys and springs anyway and the simple fact that it has the same eninge as the sr. the only thing im missing is the rev counter... :ffs:

 i hate chavs in civics gives us a bad name

i wouldnt class starlets as a "classy" car

get the SR - i dont think my car would last without a rev counter :crybaby:

i hate chavs no end, give the true car passionates a bad name...they're just attention seekers that try getting attention via the " chavvifying " of their cars:ffs: and its a shame they pick on specific cars hehe....in america the civic is the " ricers " car of choice (for those of you not in the know, a ricer is the kinda person you'll see in " Fast & The Furious ")

meh, the starlet aint that classy, but, it has a more respectable image...i.e. toyota = most reliable car bla bla bla

Class was probably the wrong word  . I was thinking more along the lines of individuality. Are the SRs the only ones with rev counters?

i belive so, yes.
