Had a busy morning this morning.

Spent 3 hours washing and hoovering the car, and spent an hour trying to fit some bonnet lifters. At least they work and I havn't bent the bonnet.

Here's a few pics of the clean car

Reflections of the clouds on the bonnet (didn't realise the car sparkled that much)

It is true they do lift the bonnet, but they also are a styling accessory.

where did you get the bonnet lifters from and how much?!

I got them from eBay, £25 they are the ones for a punto and vauxhall cavalier.

did you have to drill any new holes then? or were you really lucky and they were a good fit anyway?

EDIT: 5000 posts! shame 99.9% of them have been complete crap

I got some pics it makes it easier

I had to drill a hole in the hindge on the bonnet and I screwed the other end into where the headlight screws to the car.

I tried this the other day but the headlight hole is made out of plastic and the weight of the bonnet was bending the ball joint screw, so I got round that by putting two washers and spreading the weight out over the washers. (just hope it doesn't cause any future problems

Wouldn't it have been better to use the hole on the wing (the bolt in the picture) as the securing point?.. or was the lifter too long?.. i think you might be putting too much stress on the plastic.

Hopefully it will be ok.. looks good.

But thats all they do! (and look the part!) Much like the boot door opens by its self.

It like it. Its a nice touch.

I wouldn't have the guts to drill in a new car with a warrenty myself though.

The lifters would need 50mm cut off them to work to the bolt, no one on the net would give me sizes of the lifters, and some of the lifters I saw were over £80.

Are they automatic? Like just press a button and your bonnet lifts?

Sorry, I'm a tad on the thick side when it comes to this kinda stuff!

No

Imagine you're lifting your bonnet, you unlatch it, you lift it up and then you hold it there while you put the metal rod in.

with these you unlatch it and lift it up.......and thats it, it just stays there, no need for a rod.

open the bonnet of a volvo and youll see what i mean

Em... it's like opening your boot.... click and lift until the hydraulic lifters take-over and then they lift the rest and hold it in place until you pull it down! Good idea and more stable than the bar which holds most normal bonnets. Plus, they look stylish and are good at shows and stuff.
