Cd Player - Need Help Urgently!

I was planning to get a CD player put into my 2001 Yaris GS for my birthday. Halfords helped us right through the process until it came to booking the install, where they said the electrical system was too risky, so we'd need a specialist firm.

The specialist firm said they refuse to install a CD player in a Yaris because of the electrical system - apparently the entire car cuts out and won't start up again. I've never heard of this before, despite seeing CD players in Yaris's on a number of occasions - can anyone confirm this?

They said the only CD player that will work in a Yaris is one bought direct from Toyota. Guess what - £300. That's just not feasible for me, and there seems no way around it. Can anyone offer any tips or guidance?

!st of all, i have NEVER heard of this before, and Halfrauds havn't got a clue.

I don't have a head unit in mine, but lots do without any problems, i have an mp3 multichanger in my boot on an fm modulator (fitted by Marvin the Martian from the bugs bunny cartoons ) i also have a tft roof mount screen on a modulator too, no problems watsoever

For a guide on fitting a head unit, look here, hope it helps :)

Spoke to another independent guy who said re-wiring to the new head unit will blow up both units and the immobiliser... any substance to that?

:censor: nothing but lies, no re wiring needed at all

just need the part adaptor which can be found in the how to section !!

But surely to use this head unit rather than the Yaris standard one, I'd need to re-wire the new one through the existing Speakers? Apparently you can't have two units on the same set of Speakers.

I have my tft screen dvd player, my mp3 player, std radio, std dc player all on the same Speakers with help from Marvin the Martian's FM modulator

Look at the how too section.. it will tell you everything you need to know, how to do it, and what you need to get.

Also, something mentioned about "cutting blocks" - 'don't even try it' were his words... what does he mean, and is he right?

by reading this, i am assuming you want a tapeplayer and a cd player at the same time?

what we have done is get rid of the existing unit and simply change the headunit so only on headunit is playing through the Speakers

if it justs a new cd headunit you want its simple, instal it, old wiring loom connects into the adaptor, which inturn connect into back of headunit

soterted

so its

headunit > <adaptor lead ><old wiring loom>

have a read through old how twos

you cant keep take or stock cd player and new tho, only runs one unit!

I currently just have the bog-standard Yaris head-unit with tape player and radio. Couldn't care less about the tape player and my new unit has DAB.

I have an OE yaris headunit if you wanna go down this route!its phase one!

May i suggest a standard one if you are not into upgrading your whole system and bothered about having the volume to loud!As its a pain removing the fascia evertime you get out the car especialy when you mostly do town driving!

CB

Doesn't look like it's gonna happen. Parents are taking Toyota & Halfords' word for it, and I'm going without a birthday present.

I have a phase two T2 yaris.

As with the GS, it doesn't have the CD player as standard. All it has is the tape player and Radio.

What you need to do, is get hold of the Fascia from Toyota (look in "how to" sectin for part number), and then the 2nd fascia adapter from Audioleads (I believe this part number is also in there).

Using the two fascias, you can put in your CD player, and plug it into the Toyota wiring harness with an ISO adapter (Halfrauds/ Toyota or Audioleads can get this).

Have a look at the photo of mine, to see what I mean.

It's a dead simple job, and the bits cost me about £75:

I'm afraid who ever you've spoken to has either got the wrong end of the stick, or is talking bull.

Doing the above mod wires directly into your standard Speakers, and can be done in 30mins. ;)

The outer facia adapter is for the Rav 4, but it fits the yaris too, but if you need the cigarette lighter, you will need to buy a new one.(the facia adapter doesn't come with one.. and the original one is a nightmare to remove)

It realy is as easy as everyone is saying mate! Even if your a complete amature you'll be able to do it. There are some cracking guides on here on fitting an after market head unit and you'll get bucket loads of help, all you have to is ask!!

:crybaby: This is what I'm having trouble with too, seems the easiest way to get a CD player in is either rip my baby apart or trade it in for a different car (which seems a waste after only a month of playing with it!). I saw a perfect CD player in Halfords (who also told me in no uncertain terms theres no way i could have a CD player in that car - EVER) and after a day in tears it now seems there is a solution to my problem :D Anyone wanna :help: because I'm absolutely poo at mechanical/electrical stuff, plus it might ruin my nails... :D

:help: Available to all of you peoples wanting CD players fitted into a Yaris...spoke to someone who works in a Halford in Stoke On Trent and apparantly they fit them and as far as the lads aware, they are the only Halfords that can and want to do it? It may be worth the petrol and time for people to go down there if they dont fancy !Removed! up their car trying to fit one themselves...
