I've just been contacted by the research company who are only interested in talking to owners of the new model, so, sadly, I shall no longer be participating. It appears that this is being done on behalf of Toyota so it's great to see that the company is anxious to get feedback from real users.

So let's have some postings of what those of you who attend thought about the session, the kind of questions asked, any feedback etc.

Sadly, Derby to Southampton is too far to justify.

If they dare venture north of the M25 I would willingly take part

Strikes me that a sample comprising drivers from the SE does not reflect a valid cross-section of the UK mototring public.

Have fun. :D

Yes, I'd be interested to hear too - I was going to participate but at short notice couldn't spare the time from work - maybe they'll do some more.

Hope they know what they are letting themselves in for... seems to me that most new Prius owners just can't stop talking about their new baby!

I'm not saying it isn't, but our (Toyota GB) market research manager did not know anything about it.

I'd be interested to hear from anyone who attended.

Hi, I went to the meeting last night, very interesting. You sit in a room with a camera and mic focused on you and someone asks you lots of questions about why you chose your car, what attracted you to it, why you didn't buy an alternative, what you liked about it and what you didn't like, plus loads of other stuff.

While this was going on people in another room where watching and feeding back questions to the person that was interviewing you.

I managed to find out that the people who this is for is Honda ! :o

That makes some sense. The Prius is outselling the Honda.

Strikes me that the Honda is a compromise.....a serial Hybrid that has electric assist for the ICE whereas the Prius can work as serial or parallel in that it can be electric assist or electric only.

Also the Prius has better mpg and is automatic and has shed loads of space.

The plot thickens :)

Hmmm... damn sneaky these Japanese! - I wonder what Mr PR-Toyota will have to say?

Er, don't know. Seems fair enough that Honda should speak to Prius owners, but - and no disrespect to anyone here - I think their research agency should have been doing better than to fish for Prius drivers via TOC. Not, I suggest, a representative sample.

Obvious problem with Honda's hybrids is that one (Insight) looks too wacky and is impractical and the other (Civic IMA) too boring.

They didn't just have Prius owners, I spoke to a Honda IMA owner who was just going in for his third degree ! B)

Actually I agree - it was only a light hearted comment. I'd add that the Civic is a bit on the small size too.

If you think about it, I guess it's a good sign that competition are interested in the reasons for the Prius sucess.

As regards picking drivers from the TOC, at least it would tend to favour real enthusiasts and so tend to highlight the most favourable features to a degree.

Actually I seem to recall reading somewhere that Toyota did something very similar with BMW owners before coming up with their Lexus launch.

They do say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery!

So, if Lexus talked to BMW owners, how come every Lexus I've seen has working indicators? :D
