hi everyone ,i am a beetle lover by custom ,but my missis and i drive the corolla everyday and lately the starter motor keeps sticking ,we were told this by green flag.

I know its wrong but i overcome this by putting it in gear then turning the key and it starts, but i know nought about corolla engines ,but i hope someone could help me out on this one pls.

Don't worry about it being a Corolla and not a Beetle, the starters work in exactly the same way.

Take it off, strip it and clean/degrease/regrease the solenoid and sliding mechanism, then put it all back together.

Alternatively, there are plenty of places that supply reconditioned ones for a fraction of the price of buying new - so if you don't want to get your hands dirty then have a trip to your local Motor Factors.

Ahhh starter motors.. I have been having fun with these recently!!!!

Out of interested do you have an alarm with a starter inhibiter/imobiliser???

I rebuilt mine a few times, replaced it once... only to find it was the relay for the imobiliser, causing a higher resistance when warm, so when I tried to start it it clicked, but the solenoid plunger did not move far enough forward to make contact!!!

I solved it in the end buy fitting a new relay.. the AA said it was my Battery AND starter motor. as usual, they were totally wrong!

Or as I recently found out when swapping the engine on the MKI MR2 - make sure it has a decent ground (earth). They can sometimes corrode.
