Hi.

I'm guessing that the car was worth between £5k-6K but i dont know how insurance works or what they'd pay out.

Some one will arrive soon enough.

Is your daughter ok?

Aim for 5! if they offer you higher then take it! our t2s at work are retailing at 5995 for 53plates and were purchased for 5ish so you cant go wrong at that.

They normally pay the market value of the car, which for your daughters, according to Parkers is about £5395.....

I bought my 53 plate T-Spirit in January 2004, it got written off in November 2004 - bought it for £10,400, got £7000 back, even though it had low mileage and was only 10 months old, 7k is all they would give me for it.

Sorry to hear about it btw and I'm glad to hear your daughter is ok.

You may also wish to try to find out how much it would cost to buy a replacement used car from Toyota. Forewarned is forearmed!

click here for link to Toyota used cars.

It will also give you an idea of what is available in your area, assuming you wish to replace it with another Yaris.

Yep your insurer will give you the market value of the car, minus the excess.

I don't know actual figures (but the links above will help) the insurance company I work for uses glasses guide etc to get the value.

If you dispute the amount they offer, then do some research - look in the autotrader, car mags etc and if you can get proof of vehicles the same age/spec and mileage as your Daughters for a higher amount then send proof into your insurer of this and they should reassess the value providing the proof you give is sufficent.

I was lucky (?) with mine and the car was new enough 98 months) that with a bit of jumping up and down I got a new, almost identical, car. The fact that I was dealing with Toyota Insurance and the accident wasn't my fault probably helped though...

Good luck and I hope it all work out okay

Most insurance companies will offer you a replacement car of the same spec etc as long as the current car is under 12 months old and first registered to you. Tesco Insurance were going to offer me a new Yaris, like for like, but as I had my accident end of November they said they couldnt get me a car until the New Year and that wasnt good enough for me, so in the end I took the money, my old car got completely paid off thanks to the GAP insurance and I just bought myself a brand new Yaris instead.

Glad to hear your daughter is ok.

I got £800 for a £500 Micra - don't ask me why, I just took their money!

After deducting the excess though, I got about half! :(

Thanks for all the replys they have been really helpful, how long does it normally take for the engineer to get in touch the garage said he saw the car last week but he still hasnt got in touch with my daughter. I will let you know when she hears.

How long is a piece of string??? :)

They take as long as they take. Could be a week or it could be a month or longer. They dont do things very quickly.

Hope u get it sorted out soon tho

The guy from Norwich Union took about 8 days in total, to get out there, have a look, write a report, and speak to me about the settlement figure.

Got my money about 2 weeks later, so in just under a month, it was sorted. Probably helps though, that no one else was involved, and the car was an instant write off.

Hmm, it can be any matter of time depending on what the engineers workload is like. Has she chased it up, I know it's more ringing around but it might be worth it. The quicker the insurer does it the better it is for them as it'll cut down on storage charges etc that may be building up.

if you can get abput 3-4 ads from sellers of a car with similar condition, showing them it's worth more then what they quote they will increase it.
