Yaris 1.0l Engine Code Reading?

Hi everyone,

Firstly, just like to say what a great club and forum.

Can anyone advice me as to how to read the engine codes on the wife’s 1999 Yaris 1.0

I have shorted pin 4 and 13 but only get a continuous flashing of engine check light and then the air bag light joins in and flashes as well.

I wanted to check the codes as I had a big power loss the other day and on putting my boot down the light started to flash, has since improved and can no longer get the light on.

I think I have an air leak on the inlet side but want to check the code first.

Any help greatly appreciated.

  • 7 years later...

Hello everyone

id like to refresh this topic, yesterday in my 1.0 Yaris VVTi (2001) the "check engine" light started to flash. I'v read thru possible answers to this issue (lambda probe, fuel mixture etc...) and read about a possiblility of self-diagnostics by shortening pins by paper clip. Doesn't the Yaris have the bent paperclip trick where you can read diagnostic codes off the dashboard lights? I was trying to find a topic on this great forums, but i wasnt able to find anything :(

Is main poster in this topic correct about shortening 4 and 13 pin? If yes, how do i read the codes from the dashboard, any extedned info about that and about code list?

Thanks in advance
