Yaris Beam Deflectors

Hi folks!

Following up on Blue's thread in the General forums about driving ages I too am planning to drive on the continent during the summer.

I've seen pic of Kimi's and Yves's cars on here with home-made beam deflectors so that they don't dazzle oncoming cars. In the old days you used to fill in the sort-of triangular bits on the headlights but on the Yaris the lenses are totally clear. Can any of you tell me how I can make my own?

Thank goodness you don't have to paint your headlights blue any more though - I remember having to spend ages before each summer holidays doung that to my Dad's cars :D

Cheers in advance,

Alan

evening Alan

my beam deflectors were from mrT not home made,

the techs at work put them on for me but it wasnt as easy as you'd think it should be

as mines a phase 2 mrT had no idea where to line them up! as the phase1 has the lines on their headlights mine does not.

the parts guy from mrT sent me a picy of phase1 lights with the deflectors on and our techs guesssed where they went

Thanks Kimi (was that a "you're always here" eye roll? You're as bad as my Mum :P )

I'll give Mr T a shout closer to the time and get a set then. Sounds like it could take longer than a tunnel ride to fit them...

Cheers again,

Alan

I'm using a piece of black electrical tape about 1 3/4" high and 3" wide. Even though the headlamp covers are clear, on the phase 1 you can "easily" see the triangular part on the reflector to give an idea of where to apply the deflectors. The phase 2 is a bit different here as they don't have that anymore.

Just line it up against a wall when it's dark and use a piece of black paper as a template, all you need to do is move it around a bit untill you've blocked out the light that is going "upwards", then apply that piece of tape there.

On a RHD the tape should go on the right hand side of the headlamp covers (from the drivers position), opposite of the direction the light goes "upwards".

Yves.

Get a big hammer, and give the wheels a good smacking, so you knock the tracking to one side....

This'll turn the car to one side, and point away from on coming traffic, and onto your side of the road....

:D :D :D

Thanks Yves, I'll give that a short before handing over all of my hard-earned cash to Mr T!

Gnomey, that's certainly a suggestion
