Engine Heat Up

I have a toyota 15 TD engine 1996 model

www.cardomain.com/id/zlaws

Once upon a time the temp light on the dashboard started showing that the eingne has heated up and the turbo cut's off (i suppose for security reasons).

The temp marker is still in the middle which is 100% normal...

this only happens if i drive at high speeds or if i drive for long ditances.

I noticed that there is a smell coming out from the engine (burnt smell) even though the enigine doen't show that it was over heated. Coolant water disapered from the bottle and from the radiotor.

> I checked the oil and it still looks as new. (no white spots showing)

> No white smoke is coming out from engine or silencers.

> I don't find any water leaking underneath the car

Can it be something to do with the engine lifetime?

Please note that this does not happen all the time... maybe i make one whole week with np ... and after some time this thing shows up...

Whatever it is loss of coolant is not something engines like. Best to get it checked out soon, if it is a head gasket it good get worse very quickly, when you're on the motorway or just idling in traffic. Any loss of coolant is a Bad Thing! :crybaby:

Might be the head gasket alright but believe it or not the Vauxhall Cavalier 1.7 TD is notorious for overheating when drivin hard or left idling for a while. I should know it happened to me when i had one. My advice is get the head gasket checked and if it is not that try and get a larger fan and wire it up to a switch in the car and when ever the temperature goes above half way just flick the switch and watch that hand drop!!!!!

i think i found the problem... i filled up again the COOLANT BOTTLE.. and found a pond of water underneath the car after few mintues...

99% it's a leak, i don't know why this havent hapopen before.. (maybe the whole streched more with heat)

tomorrow i will have a mech looking at it.. thanks

sorry for the ignorance...

there is only one gaskit on an engine..

for expample there is no"upper one" and "Lower one" only one exists?

thanks, coz i need to buy one.

I also found some oil near the engine. The mech told me it's nothing but obiously i need to fik it and that the gasket needs to be changed as to prevent oil going out of the engine.. (MIGHT THIS EFFECT ALSO THE RESON THE ENIGNE WAS OVERHEATING?) or no???

Thanks guys
