Carina Boot-release

Hi guys

Great to see a forum for Toyota owners, I have seen a few but only for 700bhp supra mad monsters  As much as I would love a performance Toyota my family and my wallet just won't allow it. So for now it has to be my not so bad Carina.

Okay, to my problem. When I pull on the boot release lever by the drivers seat the boot does not actually release. Well it does but it is still on catch and cannot be lifted. I presume that this is due to cable stretch. Can anybody tell me how to adjust / replace the cable?

Also the drivers window does not seal tightly and I get alot of wind noise from it, drives me mad  Any suggestions?

Thanks

telsun

I owned a Carina E for eight years from new. From collecting the car from dealer I had problems with the drivers door window. It was repaired by the dealer on several occassions, each time the fault returned. I used to smear some grease on the rubber seal of the window. This helped for a short while.

Overall, the Carina was the most reliable car I have ever owned.

Thanks Maurice. Actually I purchased some rubber lubricant today from Halfords. Its a spray, probably performs the same as WD40 would, but I thought I would get the 'proper' stuff for the job. It seems to have helped but I am not aware of to what extent until I make a motorway journey.

How about the cable release? Has somebody got a Haynes manual they could look in for me?

I've got a Haynes manual - give me a day or so and I'll post something here.

OK - had a look in the manual and it's not that helpful - it tells you how to renew the cable but not adjust the existing one.

If you want me to copy this section (too much to type out here) either 'pm' me or post request here and I'll see what I can do.

Same problem on my corolla but is intermittant. I just pull harder and it fully releases. Anoying if you've just got out the car and then have to go back to re-release the boot.

There is some adjustment, but not too sure where it is now.

Can you take a pikky of the latch ( with trim removed ) & post. I may be able to help then.
