I had a look under the bonnet the other day and i was just thinkin, surly a panel filter would be equaliy as good as a cone filter if not better. the filter is enclosed in a airbox with a cold air feed, whilst the cone filter wont have one (unless one is built for it) so it is contstantly drawing in hot air from the engine bay!!

but with an cold airbox built it will then be the same as the before only with a cone filter, so what is the difference between an panel and cone filter apart from the noise?? is there more bhp gain with an cone filter??

I'm not an expert on the engine bay of my corolla but I was wondering where the cold air feed to the original air box is?

Is the cold air feed that pipe running from the bottom of the air box to the right hand side of the bonnet? I can't see much air getting into that, though it would be cold as it's near the front of the car, as far away from the engine as possible.

Yes thats the one, it comes out inbetween the Battery and the headlamp, i agree its far from ideal but if you look at the front of your car the only other place you could run a cold air feed to the filter box is from quite low down on the front (not for me i often have to drive down flooded roads) or through a small pipe running through all that metal work at the front or maybe two small pipes running into the airbox from the front grill? ive thought that you could, if you had the money and inclination run one out of the wing maybe get some vents pressed out of it to direct air straight through to a inline filter (viper/bmc) dirctly into the engine this way it would provide a very direct path into the engine but would prove a expensive modification for possibly very little reward.

On the K&N web site, under fitting instructions, for the 57i kit they show you how to run a cold air feed from the bottom of the engine bay, cutting a hole in something down there. I can't remember exactly where off hand.

I think I'm going to try the K&N 57i Gen II kit. Someone's got to I guess!

Is that one of those eBay auctions you can't bid on? If so I can get it cheaper locally. And that's before I use my new discounts.
