115k Miles Starlet

My Old Lady has a 1996 1.3 Starlet Sportif with 115K on the clock. The last service stamp was at 60K.

Engine is sound, doesn't leak or burn oil and runs sweet as a nut since I changed the plugs. Changed the oil and filter last month. Suspension is also good, no knocks or shakes.

Seems a bit thirsty - only around 280 miles from a full tank, but it's mainly city driving.

I figure it's due for another timing belt change soon (120K) - what else should I be looking at servicing?

here we go, some have been already mentioned.

1. timing belt 120k - i would do it now!

2. alternator belt/ pas belt

3. drain radiator and replace coolant

4. fuel filter

5. oil filter + change (you've done that)

6. gearbox oil 75w90

7. if it has pas change the fluid, i think its dexron ATF

8. spark plugs (you've done that)

9. air filter

10. front brakes - remove the pistons to check for corrosion. i had this at 60k so i would guess you'd get loads morea t 120k.

11. check drums, if they are the originals they may be nackered.

12. check the valve clearance

can't think of anything esle

seeing as the car is so old, you may want to do the timing belt yourself.

there is a guide here

I'm not quite up to stripping engines yet and don't really have the facilities to do so, even if I could do it. Thanks all the same.

What sort of labour charge am I looking at for the timing belt?

I'd say £100 minimum labour. another £20 for the belt, add some markup, VAT, and you probably won't get much change out of £175.
