I remember people talking about posibly putting one on there yaris!

I know roughly what it does and that it fits the 1nz engine but would like to know would it have any significant effect on the performance economy etc of the car!

Also could you tell me anything about the fitting?Does it need to be set up professionaly or is it DIY??

CB

not too hard to fit apparently, it's only how to set it up needs to be accurate, and i heard that they are not good for ur car in the long term, basically, wot it does is just telling ur computer that the ECU is not giving enough fuel, so it injects more fuel into it, which will screw up ur ECU in the long run...

thats wot i've heard, dunno how true it is..

The SAFC 2 is apparently not hard to install at all - I'm thinking of getting one soon. but the tuning is the determining factor for benefit... you'll need to get your car dyno tuned through the rev range (@ 200rpms).

BTW, it doesn't stuff up your OEM ecu - it intercepts and alters the signals sent to it so that the ecu in turn changes the A/F to suit. the obvious limitation of this system is that with certain mods, the SAFC2 can send a signal to the ecu for which it cannot map fuel to... that's why if you go hardcore it's best to leave it alone and buy a aftermarket ecu altogether (MoTeC, microtech, Apex'i Power FC, HKS FCON, etc)

Don't expect like much of a power difference at the wheels - in the yaris it's more for smoothing out the power throughout the rev range - better response not more power/torque unfortunately - for that, you'll need something that plays with ignition timing too (I'm not sure HOW they work with vvti though...)

otherwise swap a b16b engine in. hmmmm....VTEC (oops...we're in a Toyota forum) errr...VVTi :P

back on topic - MoTeC for example alters the ignition timing so that instead of defaulting to economy driving - it goes to performance "mode" but that all depends the state of "detune" the car is at from factory...

But to get even more benefit, you'll either be thinking forced induction (s/c or turbo) or mess with engine internals which for our car may not be worth it...reshape the cams or get lumpy cams, forged pistons and conrods...etc. Of which if you had the budget you may not drive a yaris!

cheers,
