Dear Sirs,

I'm wondering on fitting a Corolla Engine into my Starlet... talking with some guys, very often they say to me that engine is a little bit fragile and breaks crankshafts very often... is this true?

What engine do you advise, as this engine will be modified for track-day racing...

Regards,

Nuno

Depends which corolla engine you're on about. The 4A-GE found in the MKI MR2 and Corolla GTi (AE82/AE86/AE92) are probably one of the strongest engines toyota ever built. I have not heard of crank shaft breaking in them. Most comon cause of failure is head gasket, but even this is rare on a well looked after engine.

I have no idea what would be involved in putting it into a starlet.

As far as using for racing, it would be pretty good for a 1.6 as they are not particularly torquey, but like performing at high revs - which is where you'll be using most at on a race track.

More information here:

Hope this helps

System G

It´s was very helpfull from you on awnsering to me.

It's very good for me, just when I'm arriving to the "Toyota World".

I have a Starlet fitted with a Nissan Primera 2.0GT Engine, running on carbs, with 183 bhp + corolla gearbox + Quaife LSD... very good! Already bought it like this.

I'm wondering on change engine, as I want the car to be fitted with a Toyota Engine, also running on carbs... that´s why I asked the advise.

Cheers.

Nuno

The 4A-GE motor will drop straight into your car with the box. The late spec engine is much better than the early spec (stronger internals and better head design)

I have a 204hp Late spec fully rebuilt 4A-GE for sale with everything to run it. PM if your interested.

:o 204hp from a 4AGE (normally around 130 in standard form) ...what have you done to it to pump out that sort of power from it's little 1600 heart?

Fair play to you though

Other alternative would be to go for the supercharged 4A-GZE....

212Bhp capable with the larger pulley...

Its more like what havent i done!!! it has the potential for 215 with a manifold & downpipe as the std is a restriction at this power!! check out this link for the full spec - ignore the prices though im now asking much less.

How come on your spec list you say you have 40mm ITB's! (individual throttle bodies) where as in the piccies you obviously have a pair of 40/45 webers on the engine!

Have you changed to fuel injection since them piccies of the webers or tsomething?

The 40dcoe webbers are actually gutted out with inserts machined up and put in the throttles to restrict them to 39mm. So they are running as itb's although first appearance would suggest otherwise :)
