Door Speaker Replacement

I was wondering if anyone knows what a safe depth of speaker is to fit using the autoleads adaptors, as i got the adaptors and some Kenwood KFC-PS170 Speakers, which are too deep and foul the window on lowering, also the tweaters protrude from the front too much, and foul the door grills, lol

also worth noting, the adaptor plug which came with the autoloads adaptors was no use, i had to do some DIY on it, as the pins on the original Speakers were in the - - arrangement but the adaptor plugs were in the | | arrangement

i would also say on a sound quality side the OEM Speakers blow the kenwoods away, they were no more bassy and were actually less loud than standard ones

i have the OEM head unit, and the Navigation fitted, so do not want to change the unit, but would like more bass, but absolutly no bass boxes in boot, been there done that, got the T-shirt, lol i use the boot on a daily basis and having a box of any kind in there is not going to be feasable

im considering the Toyota under seat woofer, or perhaps the Pioneer small one for underseat, i just want a more home HiFi sound,

any help would be great guys :)

Hi and welcome mate.

Never heard of the adapter plug thing not fitting??? Anyway, I reckon you could build your own speaker mounts and that would stop your window fouling on the door Speakers, there is a guide about somewhere.

Also, your best bet is to talk to seveer_unaek about the Toyota sub under the seat as he has one, I think he is quite impressed by it though!

Another thing, get yourself along to the next Scottish meet, see the events section of the site! :D

cool, thanks for the replys folks :)

:)

i ended up nipping over to Halfords and getting some sony X-Plod 17cm thin mount Speakers, which i gotta say sound pretty dam good, and bonus, i can open my windows without the dreaded clonk of window banging against speaker, and here is the best bit, the only cost £39.99 those kenwoods i got were almost double that and sounded no better in the car,

just goes to show, most expensive is not always best

thanks for telling me good things about the under seat toyota sub, as i really fancy getting that

i think i would be fitting it myself after the disasterous sat nav fiasco, they cut 2 great big slots in my carpet (not so much as you can see) but when you flip the seat, you can just see it, if looking for it

im in the middle of a quibble with toyota just now as it happens, they supplied me with the nav, but it does not have the "Traffic Avoidance" as advertised,

mr T is trying to claim there adverts never said it comes with it, but all you gotta do is go to the website and clear as day, it does come with it

Im with you on the whole crap customer service part, im seriously thinking on taking them to trading standards, and also slating them in the press

as for the ETA, thats b*llocks, it is compatable with all systems which use the TNS300 DVD system, as it all ties into that!

here is one for you though, the voice only comes from left dash speaker, should it not come from at least both dash Speakers? every other system i have had comes from both

Mr T says it is meant to be like that so as not to cut the radio out, but i say who gives a stuff about the radio for those vital seconds you need instructions, lol

i may end up ripping the dash out to see what shambles that have made of it all

I was gonna buy some new Speakers but got the active sub for my old Yaris and transferred it to my new one and it's spot on, well worth the £'s.

I don't actually have the Toyota sub, iv got a kenwood one, infact, THIS kenwood sub.

It's great... takes up no noticable space and provides brilliant sound... even from a high-level spliced speaker input! It's a bit more than the toyota one, but it's twice the power and has a remote!

i went ahead and ordered the Toyota Active Sub today, hope it is as good as you say Kimi :)

also getting my TNS upgrade, about time too :) going to fit all the bits myself, that way i can not moan about the quality of fitting, as no one (garage) ever does it exactly the way i want it, and usually scratches / marks somewhere, :)

a nice full weekend taking the car to pieces, joy :P
