Cause 4alarm?

Having had the TS for just over 2years,i can quite easily say it's been comfortabley my best car to date.Mind you most of my previous company cars have been Rover's,so it wasn't difficult! Seriously though my only minor gripes are are slightly flimsy plastic interior and the very easily scratched cover protecting the dials.I think i'd marked it after about a week.

The main problem is the alarm. It tends to go off by itself only on the drive, when parked next to my Dad's Volvo S40.Strange one this! Before today the Volvo's alarm was set,and i thought this might be triggering mine.Although it went off today and the S40 hadn't been locked.

I was wondering if anyone else had encountered a similar experience.

Fantastic motor,in fact when i'm due to change next April it'll be the same again, same colour(black).

Cheers folks,

ajp

My TSport alarm has not gone off when next to another car since I have had it, however it is set off by my bluetooth headset, mobile phone, and also by my microwave (on the other side of the garage wall). This seems to be due to the microwave internal sensor on the car, any transmissions near 2.4Ghz seems to set it off.

There is also sometimes a problem with the bonnet switch being activated by the bonnet flexing as it changes temperature (I had this issue on my last car).

This probably doesn't help though, as you say the S40's alarm was switched off.

Let us know what it was when you find out!

Thanks Rich.Interesting idea about the bonnet switch though,i'll mention it at the next service. As i mentioned before, the S40's alarm had always been activated, until last Sunday when it was off.As far as i know the alarm hasn't gone off at work, but as i'm working in different places each day,in various car parks,i wouldn't know.

I'll let you know when i've sorted it,if i ever do!

How long have you had your TS? Have you been pleased with it?

I had exactly this problem with my t-sport. I posted the issue here and found the answer.

It is indeed caused by a badly designed bonnet switch which only 'opens' very very slightly when the bonnet shuts.

As the bonnet cools after a run it's ever so slightly changing shape allows the alarm bonnet switch to close and this activates the alarm. :(

I cured mine very very simply by sticking a small plastic packing piece on the underside of the bonnet where it makes contact with the bonnet switch. I understand if you take yours to a dealer and report the same issue this is all they do as the switch position is non-adjustable.

In the first couple of weeks of owning my t-sport I was getting 6-8 false alarm activations per week. Since carrying out the above mod. I haven't had a single one.

Problem solved.........
