What Does This Mean?

After fitting my new CD player, I noticed that the original display that shows the time (and used to show the radio station) now shows "XX L /100km"

The "L" is more of a squiggly one, as if it's handwritten...

ℓ - it's sort of like that (if it comes out properly when I hit Post...)

When I was sat idle with the engine running it was showing about 20/21, and when driving it can go as low as 6... what is it? It's driving me crazy! :ffs:

Also, can I turn it off? Used to be able to do it by hitting AM/FM etc, but now those sodding buttons don't do anything do they... :crybaby:

if numbers constantly changing then its just ur mpg adjusting, onces u change to an aftermarket cd player the display will disply ur average speed, mpg, or current mpg

That 100 L thingy, is to show how many litres your car would use if you maintained that speed/ revs/ gear constantly, over 100km.

l/km is like the metric equivelent of MPG

So why is it higher when I'm stationary and lower when I'm doing 60mph?

I'm not technical so apologies if I get this completely wrong - could it be because when idling it's using up more fuel compared to what the consumption is at 60 mph in 5th gear? Or maybe the computer just goes a bit haywire?

I've seen the same thing.

Changing down from 2nd to 1st, it goes upto "60" on the display!

It should read as 0 when stationary though....

No, its should read infinity when you're sitting idling. When the car's stopped then it is (obviously) not moving so it would never travel the 100km and you could sit and use an infinite number of litres before travelling the distance...

My head hurts now :D

In some ways l/100km is a more sensible measure than mpg as less fuel use is refleced in a lower number whereas with mpg the opposite is true - which can be confusing... I think :?

Hope that makes sense,

Alan

I've never had a problem with MPG... Also when a engine idles it uses a very lean mixture, burning more fuel than when its actually in use...

And in theory if your stopped it should read infinity... my car doesnt have this litre/100km thing so i dont know..
