I've recently purchased some genuine aluminium Toyota side steps for my 2002 5dr RAV 4. I was under the impression that the holes were pre-drilled and that they simply bolt straight on. However i am struggling to find these holes, do I need to remove any interior trim in order to locate them?

Any suggestions or even a copy of the instructions would be most appreciated.

Yes, the holes have rubber bungs in them, they are about 10mm diameter. There are 3, top middle and bottom. I threw my instructions away sorry, but they are easy to install. My tip, park the car up the kerb to gain extra access under the side.

I can locate three holes on the underside but they are on the side of the sill. I can't see how the side steps attach to these with brackets I was supplied with. I purchased the steps second hand from eBay, the link is below. Am I missing something or is this all you get?

It looks like you got the lot. I will get under my car when my wife gets back and take a few phots for you. Hopefully this will help

The brackets go under the sill of the car and bolt in. I wish i could draw on this thing! When my wife is back from work I will mai you the phots!

Much appreciated.

I suspect that I'm just having a bit of a blonde moment!

Try this one first

The bracket is an L shape. Turn that L on its side by turning it 90 degrees to its left around the corner of the L. The longest side holds the side steps themselves for the left hand side of the car.

If your looking at the car, the short part of the bracket , that is pointing to the air, fits behind the sill so you cant see it.

And its a mirror image for the right hand side

Any good?

(just read it to myself looking the picture, it wont help!!!!!)

My wife is not due back till well after 6, so if you can wait I will take a few of under the step as well on how they are assembled. Did you get rubber bits with them?

Also, its well worth going to your toyota dealer and buying the mudguards. It stops a lot of well mud getting on the side steps, they are less than £20 a full set

Haven't got any rubber bits with them. Not sure if you can see from the photo or not, but the holes for the bolts are on the top of the bracket not the side. Is that correct? I only ask as I can can see how I could fit them if the hole was onside i.e. adjacent to the actual step.

I am sorry mate, having just had a look at my steps, I have been having a 'blond' moment. Do you have two straight bars with the steps? They are black 'box tubes', the length of the side step. These are bolted onto the chassis and the step brackets are bolted onto these.

If not, you are very right, you have not been sent all the kit and you are not going mad, it wont fit

I have the phots ready to email you if you send me you e-mail address or reply to my pm
