Can anyone help?. Over the last couple of months the rear struts have started to leak, this is now starting to "bounce the rear wheels" over bumps. The problem is,has the car as been lowered would the dampers have been changed as well as the springs (if so, how can i tell wot size/ type do i need). Lastly is the job to change them difficult ?

Cheers

i bought a set of springs for my car, lowered it 40mm. the kit didnt come with dampers aswell, and i havent actually seen the whole kit up for sale. but if the dampers have leaked and the car is bouncing like a kangaroo in the outback, you need to get a new set. the toyota dealer will let you know what you need.

as for fitting, unless you have a spring compressor kit you aint gonna be able to do it yaself unfortunatly,

hope this helps abit.

Thanx for that . Ive been reading other problems with the rear passenger side knocking when you go over pot hole or uneven surface this sound very similar to my problem (anti roll bar etc.). i ve lost all confindence in the handling into a right hander. do you think this may be the route cause?.

wen i first put my springs on my car i had a knocking coming from the left rear, it was the anit-roll bar links, if these wear out they start to knock and the car will seem a little nervous on steering, i had those changed at my local garage for about £50 including parts and labour.. but if you lower a car and put bigger wheels on the whole geometry of the car goeas outa the window!

However that didnt stop me!! as you can probably see by the pic!

if you are putting lowering springs back onto the new shocks , you wont need spring compressors as the springs are short enough to be able to get the strut top back on - the hardest part is removing those link arms when you round off the alan head bolts - a good tip also is to slacken the big nut on top of the struts whilst they are still on the car with the wheels on the ground.makes it alot easier to disemble that way later.
