Corolla T Sport Induction

Hi

I have recently purchased a 2003 corolla t sport.

The car is great but I am looking into buying an induction kit.

I am looking at getting a K&N 69-8751TP typhoon system.

Has anyone got one? if so what are the performance gains like?

The K&N website claim a 15bhp gain!

Thanks

Mensa

I hate to say it but i really dont think you will get anywhere near a 15hp gain, it will be far better though as the original airbox is quite restrictive.

I've bought one of those kits on eBay and it looks the mutts nuts but I haven't got the car yet LOL!!! :P

There isn't alot available for this car induction wise and I trust K&N so I took the leap and bought it.

Got myself a TTE back box on eBay too while I was at it

Have you upgraded your filter?

If so what make have you gone for and has it improved your performance?

I had seen a post regarding the K&N panel filter claiming 5hp gain.

I am using a Blitz short ram, it certainly helped, i wouldnt say the top end gained much but through the lower part of the rpm band the filter seemed to make a very noticible difference. A definete improvement, this combined with the remus backbox, which is very similar to the TTE, makes the car far far far more drivable, if yours is anything like mine you wont be dissapointed.

The blitz is a short ram though, not a full cold air intake, I opted for the short ram as i had a cold air intake on my last car and nearly hydrolocked the engine, I will put in some cold air feed piping soon though. Rains to much with me! Havent had the car dynoe'd to see what the gains were but i doubt it gains much peak power, certainly seems to make a big difference before 6000rpm, and the engine holds its power a little better after 7800rpm. Hits the limiter a bit easier!

Let us know the results.

Still looking for an induction!!

I have seen kits for the matrix xrs which seem to be really cheap!

I know the matrix uses the same engine but would an induction for this car fit my uk t sport?

Any ideas?

be carefull when buying induction kits for the matrix xrs, the path the piping takes runs straight into where the hot air blower sits on euro corolla's.

the cone filter wont fit as the blower takes up all the space behind the offside foglight, you can remove this system and install the cold air intake

but it may give you a few issues. In my car the tcs and vsc no longer function.

No, i tried to search for you before you wrote.

Basicly, it fits perfect.

You just have to:

- move the air pump under the Battery (fabricate a holder for it, and lengthen its power cables)

- cut the socket out of the left headlamp so it doesnt iterfere with the pipe...

you can also buy KN short ram, but it actually robs power in normal driving. On a dyno it gains, b/c you dyno with the hood open. When you close it, the SR sucks in hot air, thus causing loss of power.

you can also cut the body instead of lamp, remove the air pump totally (but youll probably get CEL, or squeeze the filter between the pump and bumper.

My soluton requires most work, but is the cleanest.

gimmie your e-mail - i'll send you some pics.

I fitted my K&N Typhoon Induction kit yesterday and the sound is amazing! A bit loud for some I'd say, but you can really hear the suction and the revs kicking in in the 'lift' zone!

I'm happy with it anyway and I think's it worth the money (£189). Not sure what the BHP gains are, but the power delivery feels smoother in the lower rev band and as I said really kicks in from 6,000rpm upwards

The only fault I can find from a fit/quality point of view is that the AFM meter wiring is a bit tight, but the kit is bolted down so there should be very little movement.... I hope!
