A Question About Motor Oil

Hello,

As a complete Toyota newbie I would be curious to find out about the recommended motor oil for a Corolla.

I asked my local Toyota dealer and they told me that they use a Toyota brand oil, semi-syn 10W-40. I was rather surprised with their answer as I was almost sure that everyone use fully syn at this time.

I could not find much info about the Toyota oil, and could not find any comparison to the other oil manufacturers.

Could anyone tell me more about this? Thank you.

For a Corolla such as yours I would use Semi synthetic 10W 40

For cars such as yours this would be perfect.

However my warning would be to still change the oil twice a year/a least every 5000 miles (which ever is sooner) as I think the recent recommendations of Once a year or every 10,000 mile is just way to long for long engine life.

This 'long' oil change interval seems to be the norm with every manufacturer these days, I would sooner be safe (for an extra £25quid or so a year) than sorry
