Twin Tank 4 Running On Veg Oil

Recommended Posts

:) Has anyone out there converted to veg oil?

I had a 306 that I used to run on veg oil & white spirit mix as shown on TOP GEAR. It worked really well, even if it did smell like a chippy! I have heard that you can get a kit that works by starting the engine up on diesel then warms the veg oil, so it doesn't stress the pump. Has anyone out there tried it or are you using it now??? :)

well.

it only works on diesel engines.. (apparantly), which creates an issue, since you need to 'flush' and pressurise a diesel engine, so unlike a petrol engine, if you run out of fuel, you cannot just fill up and carry on..

so i imagine, if you are going to switch fuels, you would need to ensure the integrity of the fuelling system was maintained, not an easy job..

as Fig said i dont think it would be an easy job.

If you was to run it on two seperate tanks you would need some form of valve to switch from tank to tank and the problems i see with that is

1) to make sure no air can enter the system whilst switching and would have to be connected before the fuel filter

and

2) if it cant be run on veg/white spirt mix from cold your are going to need switch back to diesel and run it through the system until all the veg oil is flushed out before you turn off the engine which could cause problems as one day you may forget.

But im sure there are companys out there who specialize in this sort of thing its just finding them

Could you not pre-mix a veg oil/spirits mix with diesel, so that your not running just veggie mix, but are still diluting your fuel bills [or am I just talking crap again?]

Thanks Steve,

I think there is a company out there who makes a kit for the twin tank thing.

Running a diesel/oil/w spirit mix ould put stress on the pump etc, I will just have to do some more research. I was really hoping some one would be running the system. :)

first-timer on the forum looking for my own answers but...........been running my surf 3.0 on veg oil , no conversion , no additives for the last two summers through a single tank and it has worked well tween april and end of august. i converted (added the bolt on kit) last week using the ATG kit from dieselveg.com and am looking forward to 365 days a year smelling the rich sweet smell of ............cash  in my pocket and not HMC&E. the kit is great and staggering value for money when you balance the cost of diesel. the dieselveg website site spells out the whole 9yards and clive and nick are the real deal. well worth exploring the possibilities. bgood, brich, bruce

I have been running My sprinter on veg oil for the last 6 months using an ATG kit from dieselveg with no problems at all and prior to that the same kit was used on a vw lt35 also with no problems ,as previously mentioned i did not have to use any diesel as long as the frost stayed away which reduces costs even further.

I use recycled oil from the local chip shop which is free but even including filters etc to clean it only worksout at 2p per litre +tax

I save £50 a week which meant my kit was paid for in 8 weeks as opposed to 18 months with LPG equiv

I fitted my kit in a weekend and would recommend Dieselveg asthey are very enthusiastic and helpful to anyone who shows an interest
