Hi all

Im looking at a supra tonight, 16.06.2005, Automatic 90.000 miles, priced at £3995, Are there certain things I should be looking out for.

Are the automatic's reliable?

Also can someone please explain briefly what the models are, F1 etc, which is best one and which is the not so good one.

Blimey you dont even give us a clue what you are looking at!

There are MKIIIs and MKIVs of course, if its a MKIV then its probably either:

Jap Spec Import or UK Spec (there are also US spec etc all with variations MAP vs MAF etc)

From that the model might be either an RZ, SZ or GZ

Basically an SZ is non-turbo (2jz-gt)

GZ and RZ are twin turbo but with different options (2jz-gte)

GZ is top of the range with leather but alas are always auto

RZ = 6 speed manual

RZ-S has 4 speed auto, later cars can have tiptronic

There is also differences depending on age (e.g. the ECU odb-i or odb-ii) along with VVTI on later cars

In total, the gearbox options are 4 speed auto, tiptronic, 5 or 6 speed manual as far as I know.

So all in all there are a lot of variants, and unless you know which one your looking at its hard to be in a postion to buy because the prices vary so much depending on model!

For example uk spec MKIV twin turbo 6 speed manual would be quite rare, a jap spec auto is as common as you like. I have a jap spec 6 speed manual which is somewhere in the middle (although it was still hard to find a nice one with so many autos and iffy ones for sale)

If its a MKIII then someone else will have to help you out as its not a model I have taken an interest in so much,

I hope that helps a bit,

Louis
