Inverters are not good at running motors .. I worked out I could run about a dozen Xboxes on it, but not one hairdryer :D

Why not? I used mine on several cars to put in the stereos neatly (to tight to buy ISO connectors  ) It worked perfectly, most are only around 25w.

Couldn't get a TV to work off mine though  Just blows the fuse, the TV is only rated at half of the power that the Invertor can kick out but the initial surge is too much.

Also if you get this one:

-9496i0.jpg

From: Maplin for £90

Then you should be able to run a lot more things as it is 1000W. Just says you can't use inductive things like Flourescent Tubes (maybe Tv's come under that??)

Health Grills should be no problems though as long as the Wattage of the invertor is higher than the wattage of the health grill

*edit*

Also kettles can run off them, they even sell little mini kettles which just hold a cup or so which are low power (designed for energy saving in the home) They would run OK. Again you just have to get a low power one or a high power invertor

Problem with a high power invertor is it will fry your alternator ;) Not good idea

Err Ok, I'll believe you!

But the soldering Iron should come off your list still as they are only 25W :P
