Tyres

I need to replace a couple of tyres on my 1.8 GS (99). Has anyone got any recommendations or preferences or should I just stick to the Michelin Energy's that are fitted?

Regards,

Vmax

I have recently fitted Vredesteins to my 02 Avensis. My local independent Tyre specialist (customer for 20 years) advised that he had started to see a lowering of quality in Michelins. Lots of adverse feedback from other owners. Recommended Vredestein. A Dutch tyre, lots of positive feedback from customers and now his number 1 seller. To clinch it, he pointed out I would save £52 on the deal for a pair.

So far, so good.

If you are worried about your safety, go to Bridgestone Turanza (toyota now puts them on new cars). It's very safe tyre, has excellent contact with the road, but it spends the surface faster. It's normal, because of good contact. I've done on the car I've just sold 50.000 km and tyres were still OK. If I was to keep the car I would say it was a time to change them(VW Golf, Bridgestone Turanza). My new Avensis came with exactely the same brand. I'm more then satisfied and feel safe.

Agree on Michelin. I drive few company cars (Renault Laguna's). Some have Michelin Energy and some Bridgestone Turanza. It's big difference. You can feel in cornering the Bridgestone is like glued to the road. Michelin made me run out the corner a little bit, few times. But I notice that Michelin lasts longer. My advice would be, go for the safe driving.

From my own experience, Bridgestone Turanza is excelent for 40.000-45.000 km on average roads and average driving, or if you don't do that much, 4 years max. life.

Thanks both,

I'd best get down to the local fitters and see if they've got either of these.

Hi There

I'd definatley avoid Michelins - they dont last 5 minutes, especially on some American roads.............................

Cheers
