Hi guys, I have some questions regarding to my 94' Paseo. The problems I have are as follows:

1. The fuel pressure regulator is connected with a hose to a little stuff that looks like a “filter”, and then following a hose connecting to the engine part. What is exactly that little “filter” called about technically?

2. I have no problem to start the car when the engine is cold. However, the engine will be down at lower rpm when the engine is warmed up. At first, the problem seemed to be resolved after I removed the hose connecting to the fuel pressure regulator. The same situation, however, happens again after one week later. What could be the problem come from? The fuel pressure regulator or the little “filter”?

3. A noise could be arisen when I drove above 50 mph while the AC circulation was switched to interior. The problem will be disappeared if I switch the circulation to exterior. Is that resulting from a malfunction of some kind of valve?

Could you please kindly shed some light on these issues? I would very appreciate if you could tell me the name and the part number for me to purchase the right parts. Thanks a lot.

1. that's called the fuel filter

2. it's pretty normal, but it could be a dirty fuel filter or injectors. in the winter, denser air is going into the motor, making the engine inject more fuel to run at the proper air/fuel ratio. if it's not pumping in enough fuel, your rpms could suffer a bit, but slightly lower is normal, as far as i've seen.

3. there's always a different sound when you switch to interior air, it's louder and blowss faster. could you define the noise? if it's something other than a harsher flow of air, there could be a problem in the routing system. i.e. there could be a "door" loose that closes off the outside air.

4. hope this helps.

Sir, thank you so much for your information.

For the "fuel filter", I couldn’t find the part after checking with several local auto part shores. It ends up that I could only find it in Toyota dealer, and it costs about $60 US dollar. That’s crazy! So I tried to search from websites, the research results will always show the one as the following website instead of the one I need:

http://www.autopartswarehouse.com/mmp/toyo...lter~parts.html

So I guess it could be called differently other than “fuel filter”. Do you know any website where I could possibly find it with the specific key word?

For my second question, you mentioned that the problem could be caused by a dirty fuel filter or injectors. Does the fuel filter indicate the one for my first question? If it does, hopefully the problem can be resolved after I change the new “fuel filter”. Otherwise I guess it must be the problem coming from fuel injectors.

In terms of noise, the harsher flow of air as you described is the problem I have. The noise is coming from air vent and it’s getting louder when speed up. Is it normal for an old car, or actually some part needed to be replaced?

fuel filter, to my knowledge, is not called by any other name, and it should be a universal part number (basically, the filter for the paseo will probably fit on other cars and vise versa). if the fuel filter is replaced, and the problem continues, check the injectors for buildup on the nozzle.

your FPR could go bad, but i've never heard of that being a problem. i think you're just experiencing normal occurances.

as for the air conditioning, when your engine revs at higher RPMs, the crank pulley turns the AC condenser more quickly, which results in a higher output, so you shouldn't be surprised.

Fuel filter isn't universal mind, each cars is specific. Thats not to say a certain part number won't have a few applications though ;)

I have access to about 25 different filter manufacturers at work and they all list one fuel filter for mine, even after x referring back and forth they still come out at the same part no, but it's wrong

Best bet, take a number off the original part and take it in for them to check it that way
