Fitted The Active Sub And Eta Yesterday

Finally fitted the sub, and my ETA (Traffic Avoidance) upgrade box to the TSN300 Sat Nav box under the other seat

the sub never came with any instructions, which was not a big problem

Major thanks to the form for the "how To" on getting the dash appart , what a piece of cake, must have only taken about 10 mins max to have it in fully removed status, and so nice to work on

i love the yaris, not a screw to be found on trims, merely pop clips, which are better than any other car i have worked on

the Nav upgrade is very neat, and appears to be working a treat

The sub however, i am in 2 minds about, yes it was easy peasy to fit, but the sound is NOT impressive at all, it distorts and vibrates something terrible on dance CD's (its not to bad on normal chart music, or "oldies")

and it is no where near as loud as i would have imagined, does anyone else who has the sub feel this, or should i attempt to play with the gain level a little, as it is set full up (2v) and is almost impossible to get to with the sub in suite, i have messed about with the head unit to set the bass from 0 to +5 and have kind of settled on +1 to +3

it just seems silly to me the Phillips, a good company for home audio products, would make such a mediocer product for the car

oh, and for those asking how much it was £123 + VAT (i have a Mr T Discount)

Perhaps an upgrade on the wiring could help with some of the distortion problems... other than that I'm stuck for ideas apart from taking it beack and buying something else...

I had problems with the fitting of my sub, Mr T did it. When I finally got them to sort it out it sounds fine. It is screwed to the chasis though, which I found reduced the vibrations from when it wasn't fixed down. It is onl;y a 50w sub so you can't expect miracles. Got my head unit set on +3 bass and the sub sensitivity turned up about 2/3, if my memeory serves doesn't it go from 2v to 8v, pretty sure 8v is the most bassy...

Fiddle around with that dial, if you still don't like it try to take it back. But I'm totally satisfied with the performance of mine.

Yippeeeee, got it sounding miles better now, i took it back out there, fitted sticky back foam under the sub, so it was not vibrating against the chassis, as i had cut a nice wee hole in the carpet to allow it to be as low as possible below the seat, as not to interfere with seat sliding, etc

i originally set the gain to full up (8v) which appeared to be the only point at which it moved the small subs, but in my haist i had not screwed it to the floor at that point, so it was not able to make use of the body to make the bass, so sounded pants

also the bass was totally exceding the rest of the clarity espessialy when speaking, like on the news for eg..

now the gain is set to aprox half way round the dial, im guessing that would be (4v) and you even get a kick to the bass now, where as before you just had noise, not clear decent bass, which i was shocked at from Philips, as there Woox system usually rocks

i agree dance music sounds a lot less brilliant than a good rock or ballad, they now sound much better

i will test it and see how i get on, im still considering adding a second sub (propper beasty) in the spare wheel well, to give the the really low notes under say 50hz

but i may not bother touching it as right now it is plenty fine

:) yay happy again, thank goodness

What music would you recomend then kimi?

my latest Cd which i got on sale at ASDA (£4) is "Magic" summer hits

it is from the music channel Magic on Sky / cable pretty decent older stuff on there mostly 80's 90's pop with a few 70's mo-town stuck in

i really like my punchy bass, thats why i have a few dance CD's i need some good driving CD's

im thinking my next upgrade might be the mp3 changer one i saw in the how too somewhere, man i got the mod bug now, lol, oh dear there goes any saving i might have done, lol

A good song to see the proper ability of a new sub would be "Diesel Power" by Prodigy, and for that matter, any prodigy...

In a enclosed space "slap my !Removed! up" sounds almost overpowering...

Classics such as Black sabbath also go down quite well...

Try Nativity In Black... Big n bassy...

Boom

Hi all,

I take it you were referring to my article on the MP3 CD changer stealth install, and also the photos on taking the yaris dash apart right ? - if not check it out....

YARIS MP3 STEALTH INSTALLATION GUIDE

Anyway, I have just purchased a WOOX unit (Toyota) - which comes with a tiny 4 inch long wiring harness - is there provision for this to go straight into a wire under my drivers seat on the yaris ? or do i need any more wiring / loom etc ?

Does anyone have a copy of the instructions for the unit - as I have absolutely no info on it (A fitting guide for the woox is also planned - so all the info is greatly appreciated!)

Also, using the bracket supplied, is any drilling necessary ? - I have taken the carpet-cutting tip onboard by the way.

Many thanks in advance for your help & info,

fred

I have an active sub system with instruction and all cables that i am soon to get fitted by toyota. i also have another unit i purchased off eBay that didin't come with the cables. When you purchase the item it SHOULD come with a long loom to connect it to the head unit, as it cannot be bought separately. Maybe try a scrap yard as this unit is for most toyotas.

As for the fitting i have instructions copied from toyota, the bracket involves no drilling but uses the bolts from the seat, so that means the seat has to come out to fit the active sub system.

PM me with you email/mail adress and i'll send you what info i've got.
