Hi, guys my rad cooloing fan got jammed and blow the fuse whilst car was on turbo timer for 2-3mins and car over heated and water sizzling out rad joins, rad cap, over flow bottle etc.....

Now replace fuse and fan but cant get air out of rad, also idel is very low 800ish rpm and think could feel moisture in exhausts gas!

So Im fairly sure engine is F**K*D, I'd like to know as I'm realy would up by this car what the best way to fix it!

I thought I go down the up rated haedgasket set, lowwer degree thermostat, doubble thickness rad. cusco or TRD rad cap!

Whom is best to get this stuff from how much would I be looking at roughly?

Thanks

ED :crybaby:

you probably need a new head as its likely to have distorted it from the lack of cooling flow.

what colour is the oil and coolant? I am surprised you coudln't get the air out of the radiator?

The coolent has gone a sort of green colour and white foaming bubbles, it just get realy hot and when at 6-7k in hight boost coolent leaks out of the over flow of expansion bottle all the time!

oil maily black not brown and gungy like when my mates 328 haedgasket went or his R5 turbo!

You think it could be somthing else?

well if the coolant is cloudy / has tiny bubbles, it could signify a buggered head gasket, and also bubbles in the oil. also check if there is any cream coloured gunge under the oil cap

Hi there, thanks for answering my post you guys,

I've just checked all that again as well as run it for 30miles and there seems to be slight blip on idel (say every 3-4seconds) once just over half way on temp gage, but fans don't cut in so have over rided and fit a manual switch.

Oil no browner than normal, same colour black brown as dads merc, my sisters ford and my other car, nothiong under cap at all. Coolent same green ish colour it always seems to be but with very tinny bubbles once opened after alowed to kool down!

But I do have same problem of when really using all power availbe in high boost have vapour trail down side of car where expansion bottle over flow letting out tinny amount of water (say a mouth full) realy not gd sigh i'd say and top speed not avalible like used to be can barly get 120-125mph!

Any ideas? , :crybaby:

Well i'd stop driving it about and take it to someone that knows what they are looking for someone like Rob at SES (specialist engine services) has a good reputation among the starlet field:

Not sure what exactly you have done but the expansion bottle business sounds like the system is getting over pressurized and expanding too much coolant into the tank - hence the overflow. whats the coolant level like when completely stone cold? try draining some until it is on the min mark and try again.

There doesn't seen to be a min on rad which is where the coolent is kept.

Expansion/overflow tank is prety much below the min mark now!

Could some out the send me a pic of where the temp sensors are one the Starlet 4E-FTE engine as fans nots cutting in now and want to sort this!

Fuse is fine!

Had a similer thing happen with my paseo about a year ago the radiator blew causing the headgasket to go. One thing i noticed was after i had replaced the radiator despite refilling the car with the correct level of coolant the over flow bottle would still fill up and the top would blow off. Also whilst the car was being reved a muge larger amount of pressure was on the radiator cap. Similar thing with the coolant a got a few small bubbles in it but it was still blue not green. From you have said it does sound like the headgasket has blown and i would stop driving it now my paseo over heated three times in total so even with the head gasket replaced it was still not wright i think the bors ended up being scolded. I gave up on it in the end as it was simply costing to much to repair. Hope this helps you and just get it to a garage or some one to look it a dont drive it your risking more damage.

Sounds like head gasket, you dont always get white cream in the oil on modern engines due to the location of the oil feed through the head gasket.

With a blown head gasket it will over presurise the coolant system from the leaked 'explosions' every time the engine fires on the leaky cylinder. You most probally will be looking at a new head as those heads always crack, round the exhaust ports. Boost is a !Removed!.

What probally started as a minor head gasket failure turns into major cylinder head problems due to lack of cooling, the heads coolant chamber gets air locked stoping the sensors from reading correctly, fan wont kick in and your temp gauge tells you lies. A modern alloy cylinder head without water wont last long. The boost makes a slightly leaking head gasket much worse very quickly.

I have about 10 cylinder heads from charade gtti's with this exact issue, all cracked in exactly the same place. Boost is good but as soon as theres a coolant issues it all goes pear shaped very quickly.

So dont turn the boost up!!!! Thats idiot tuning, mmmm blead valve, mmm fcd, crank it up, kaboom! cry cry.
