Shorter Than The Average Dipstick

I was just doing a routine oil-check/top-up today when I noticed it was hard to get a proper reading from the dipstick as a large section of it (from just below the 'F' mark) has broken off and is presumably now in the bottom of the sump!

Makes taking a reading impossible as now it only reads 'over Full'!!!!! Has anyone else heard of this happening? Will the broken off piece cause mischief or is it too big to be a nuisance?

Will be off to the scrapyard for a new dipstick!!

I'd be doing an oil change asap to remove it just incase it causes some serious damage to your engine....

Got the oil changed - no sign of the piece, however garage says there's a mesh in front of the oil filter so it shouldn't go anywhere....will keep you posted.

To be safe, get a magnetic sump plug as this will keep any foreign objects away from the big ends!!
