Today I found out I've got the promotion I've been after for a while!!! :D I've got a cash advance from the bank and have just signed up to Gold membership and also my local car club for discounts. This is what I will be doing to my 98 1.6 Corolla: -

1) Bodywork tidied up a bit, will probarly try one of those dentmaster type mobile companies. My car isn't worth a full respray.

2) Stainless exhaust from the cat back.

3) Maybe a K&N Typhoon induction kit. Still debating the pro's and con's.

4) Possibly a chip. Again, not 100% sure of the benefits.

5) Fast road pads. Probably EBC.

I'd like 125-130bhp but think I may be optimistic.

Any thoughts/suggestions on any of the above? All comments gratefully received.

Nice one dude save up some cash for an engine conversion!!!

It's a shame the 4afe is a pig to get any power out of it, a nice flowing exhaust and a filter like blitz will see you a good 10-15bhp on the 109bhp the 4afe has allready I know a111sr did a chip on his 4afe but said it was :censor:

depends on your budget.

But Dastek, manifold, de-cat to full exhuast system and good cold air induction will see a considerable increase in performance and power up to around the 120-130 mark

Kev :)

Is that the blitz panel filter or the induction kit?

Not sure I can afford the manifold. Again not sure about the hassle and legal issues of a de-cat.

How much is a Dastek chip? I've heard they're the best as they are mappable?

Not sure on the prices for Dastek chips but they can be mapped. You think its bad trying to tune the 4afe....? Ive got the vvti motor in mine and its a pain the bum!

Would you be happy with around the 120 bhp mark?

Ultimately im wanting to save for an engine transplant, probably 4agze but only just started my job so got lots of saving to do! lol

The Yaris now has loads of items available for it, sports cat etc, a shame ours didnt follow suit. :(

yeah it's shame there's not much more available. I honestly would be happy with 120-130bhp from my Corolla. I have my reasons!

I have to say that I find the 4AFE not that good for acceleration esspacially as it is a 1.6.

Toyota 'claimed' that the 4AFE was done for economy as opposed to performance like the 4AGE 1.6, yet I run a 1600 4AGE Corolla and a 1600 4AFE Corolla side by side (and have done for quite a few years) and I find that the economy of both cars is about the same (when driven 'normally'), both do well over 40m.p.g on-a-good-run.

Economy my ar*e! I find my corolla poor, especially on motorways as 80mph is nearly 4000rpm! I don't find the accelaration too bad to be honest.
