I noticed info is begining to come out now that the 2006 Honda Civic hatch MIGHT be available in a hybrid model - wonder how Honda will deal with all the stuff in the boot of their current hybrid re the new hatch?

All the info I have read has related to the 2006 Honda Civic in the US but, I imagine, at some point that it will be Worldwide.

Hmmmm. the article says that Honda claim the new Civic will provide "significantly" better mpg than the Prius but then says that the current Civic hybrid returns 51mpg and the new version will be 5% better. Still some way short of the 59.8mpg (and rising) that my Mk1 Prius gives me. Don't think I'll buy a Honda somehow.......

heh, not only that but it got new 50% more powerful electric motor... which is now... 20hp!!! (some 3.5x less than Prius).

:-).

It is also still only an mild-hybrid, cant be powered by motor only and it is significantly smaller vehicle than Prius anyway...

It's all for the good though IMPO. The more of these hybrids appear the more the price will come down and there will be all sorts of green benefits as more people buy and drive them.

I would like to see more car makers selling them. I see in California that the first hydrogen car is now being tested by a family who 'won' it in a competition. I think it is a Ford.

Heck, would you buy a Ford with that level of technology? lol

You wouldn't by a Prius if Ford made it now would you? :D

Good luck to Honda....the agency they hired to research Hybrids paid me £100 to talk about the Prius for 2 hours.....easiest ton I've ever earned.

This was initially reviewed in a couple of Sunday papers - it is going on sale for 16K base price compared to the 17.5K base price of the Prius. Both reviews felt that the interior was superior to the 'bland' Prius.

Honda are citing 61mpg.

W**k - from what I have read the new Civic hybrid is not only a non-hatch but you cannot fold down the rear seats in it due to the batteries. It looks great inside but, boy, Honda seems to hate hatches of late - no hatch Accord - so the new hybrid Honda Civic is a no no for me. Hatches are practical, boots are not IMPO.

I think I will wait to give the petrol version a go though but the pricing of base models starts at 16K which is way too high for that sector.
