I just bought a Celica 2.0 GT import...it didn't have a car manual so I'm a little unsure about where everything is in the engine area!...the gears seemed a little stiff..so I was wondering shall I drain the transmission fluid and replace with clean oil?...and where the heck is it??...can anyone give me a site for the engine diagrams etc?...Cheers all!...my car rocks with 17 split rims and a whaletail spoiler!!:o

Firstly, what year is the car?

A translation of the original drivers handbook can be purchased - a company called JPNZ in New Zealand specialises in translating handbooks. www.jpnz.co.nz or UK specialists will get you one if you spend more...

Without trying your linkage I can't comment. Is it getting worse, or is it stiffer than you expect? Can you compare it against other Celicas? There may be adjustment in the linkage...

Well the clutch is a little hard too...the gear is a little stiff sometimes...not that bad, just accasionally I need to do it twice..

its supposed to have covered 91k km..

I took it for a service..and he said that the tranmission fluid for the gear box needs to be changed by an expert!!...cos its dangerous to fill up too much or too little...and cos he couldn't find the over spill bolt type thing..what shall I do?..shall I change it myself???

I have changed the brake fluids...but its still a little clunky...is it supposed to be a little stiff?? especially the reverse gear..

er..the garage guy put in some red stuff...can't recall the name now..but it was proper transmission fluid..maybe I should get it reconditioned...cos on 1st gear..its not smooth in low revs...kinda jerks..

but then again..thats the engine problem and not the gearbox right??...I'm getting a K&N induction kit fitted in..and a 4.5" back box fitted..maybe that would help the system flow better...

red stuff sounds fine, i put red stuff in mine. mine takes DEXTRON II auto tran fluid even though its a manual. same stuff for power steering.

Hmmm...I think I need to get the gear box sorted soon..its not normal...feels dry and stiff..even clunky!! have to locate one first!!:(

Anyone knows if a engine transplant is possible on the GT??...possibly for a GT4 engine??

  • 1 month later...

Its Toyota Celica, caharacterstic to have stiff gear changes, so dont worry, you can buy car manual from the toyta dealer... engine is same as UK 2.0GT. Its called

3S-GE

its pretty straightforward 2.0 16valve engine. just make sure u have regular oil changes.

Hi,

Yeah, my import definately has a 3sge engine. As for the manuals, i recently bought one from that site mentioned before and I was quite dissapointed with the information they contain. It didn't really tell me anything I couldn't have worked out for myself (except the auto a/c part did help), so I'm not sure if they're worth the £20 or whatever you pay for them, although they are nice to have. IF you don't want to spend the money I can scan parts of it for you if there is anything you need to know,

congrats on new purchase!!
