Had my car for a month now, Noticed a bit of a fuel problem, ie. my car drank more petrol than my mates mr2 turbo going to santapod..plus i didn't run my car and he did. ive put about £60 in her since last wednesday. Wondering how i could sort this out or if any one else has the same problem.? it does about 143KM's to £20

If you are happy there is no leeks and the fuel is being burnt is there any additional smoke being generated, dark black? does it drive the same? are the tickover revs normal, high or hunting

look for the obvious cracks or damage to air intake rubbers and any hose pipes or caps off any of your inlet manifold side of the engine to rule out the obvious, when was the last time u changed your air filter, what condition is it in

Anyway ruling out the above you may be best in the long run going for a hook up/tune up/diagnostic session for you motor. garages up ear do them for £35 quid, they will analyse your total engine electric process mixtures etc and chuck your injectors and if possible adjust here and there. It if not they will at least let you know where the problems are comming from

It sounds a bit low, depending on your typical journey and driving style. First thing I would check is the lambda sensor. They are only rated for 50k miles (but can go on for much longer), after which you should consider changing it as a service requirement.

Got my car checked out today, 2 gaskets are blowing on my exhaust 1 near the decat is blowing bad, 1 near the manifold, also have a small hole in my back box :censor: Hopefully this is whats causing it.

Probably is, especially the one near the manifold if not soley responsible they will be a good contributor to your fuel prob.

Yep. I agree with Cookci. Get the exhaust sorted first. Then i`d be a bit suspicious of the Lambda sensor.

Have you had the car serviced recently? You`d be surprised the difference an air filter new plugs and an oil change will make.:thumbsup:

i wonder if the airfilter is clogged up , cant wait for my TRD airfilter to arrive - cost me £70 so should see some gains hopefully.

Gasket paper no good. You need to get some heavy guage foil. That joint gets mighty hot. Sainsburys finest won`t last a week. Can you describe the gasket to me? Or a clear picture?

seems to be ok in the oven? does the zorst get hotter than a grill or oven on full pelt?

it worked for my decat joints anyway

I`m assuming he means the manifold to downpipe gasket.

The decat part of the pipe is further down thus the exhaust gases have lost a fair bit of heat and pressure by the time they get that far..

And the heat in your oven is what? 200 deg C... The exhaust gas coming out of an engine is typically 800 deg C. Added to that the gases are going to be moving an awful lot faster than the heat in your average fan assisted chicken burner so you can see why it`s not going to last long.

Also i tried this on a Diesel engined motor a little while ago and thats about 200 deg C cooler than a petrol engine. Same result.

You can get some fairly heavyweight foil in those exhaust repair bandage kits as made by holts. And thats for holes in silencer boxes. Which it`s ok for. Not suitable for MOT tests by the way.

Actually judging by the description it sounds like the exhaust may be on it`s last legs anyway. Might be worth buying a nice stainless system???

It is a whole Stainless steel one japanese one manifold back, this is why its hard finding parts for it no the same fitting as a standard toyota 1

Ah right. So the small hole in your back box could be a pre drilled drain hole? Which still doesn`t help with tha gasket. So can you describe what the gasket should look like?

the dimensions of your stainless cant be far from the OE setup.

try equivalent toyota gaskets and or take it to a pro custum exhaust shop to see what gaskets they have

Damn fine idea. .. Or even your local Kwik Fit or similar might have something. If you took the pipe with you.... Bit of a pain, but might be worth the effort. Better still take the car and let them do the dirty bit. :D
