Gen6 Keys And Alarm Fob

Hi all,

The alarm fob for my gen6 ST doesn't work too well - it often takes a couple of heavy presses on the button to unlock the car. I'm assuming the problem is with the fob rather than the receiver in the car as I'm looking for the light on the fob coming on when I press the button, and it doesn't always happen. I'm guessing the fob might benefit from a new Battery, but I don't know whether I can safely open the thing up without either a) it dropping to bits or B) it deciding it's being interfered with, and throwing a wobbler. Can I safely loosen the screw and take a look inside?

I'd also like a spare ignition key. I only have one key and it doesn't seem to have any electronics in it, so I'm guessing it should be fairly cheap to get another one cut. Do I need to go to Toyota for this?

TIA

ask at the dealers about the fob Battery. better be safe than sorry, a key can be cut any where.

The Fob Battery can be changed easily - I changed mine thinking they were getting low as they only work from about a meter away, but after changing they still only work from a meter away!

I think they advise that you don't leave it without a Battery - ie don't take the old one out and carry it down the shops to get another. You can take it out look at the code then put it back though. I think they reckon about 10 mins
