Avensis Start Trouble

Hi I am new to this so I hope somebody can help me out.

I have an avensis 2.0td 99 reg which is failing to start, a problem which has got progressively worse over the last week.

Sometimes its starts and runs just fine but now most of the time nothing happens

I turn the key, all the lights come on but when I turn to start it is dead. No click nothing.

After about 10 or so attempts the car will eventually start but even this is taking longer and longer to work. Once it starts it runs fine.

The local garage want to fit a new starter unit but I think it could be the ignition swiitch or the barrel itself (maybe even the immobilzer)??

Can anybody help, have read other threads they seem to back me up. But I am not sure.

New ignition switch needed, fit many to Avensis about £40 ish + 1/2 hr to fit
