im goin to keep the orginal head unit cos i like it and i have stering wheel controls!

i was jus wonderin wot i would need after i go and purchase some aplines 6x9's?

wots all this i hear about the green wiring loom and all these connectors to the head unit? is it possiblt to connect 2 new dash, 2 new door and 2 rear 6x9's to the standard cd player head unit? will the sound be ok?

any help would be geatly appreciated peeps ive been readin through all the forums but im still abit confusled.

I beleive theres a wiriing loom extension - the green cable.

The standard car has either two or four Speakers - I beleive most have four - but as you've already guessed they are under the windscreen edge and in the front door pockets.

I added a set of rear Speakers by first getting the dash to bits then by a process of trial and error identifying the door Speakers (pluggin and unplugging the connectors til I worked it out) in the back of the standard head unit.

Then I spliced in a pair of new cables and ran them back into the dash and along to the footwell carpet trim.

Then its a case of running the cabling along the carpet trim strip and into the boot -whereby I used a couple of connectors to attach to the new speakers - that way I can take the shelf out and the speakers at the same time.

Others have done more serious installs - but this works for me.

I recently also got a replacement parcel shelf made from nice thick mdf which gave a huge difference in sound quality.

Does that help?

Spliced ... well yeah - just joined.

Cablewise any decent audio place that supplies car stuff should have a range - just remember theres not a lot of point going mad if you're gonna keep the oem headunit.

And yes - I've stayed with the standard - largely cause I use the car for work and am more confident all the windows will still be entact when I get back to the car!

There are over 21000 people who want to give you a helping hand (although some of them dont come on here that much any more  ), but some people will be able to give more help than others.

Oh yeah, and welcome to the club, I have 2x Kenwood KFC-1358S Speakers in my rear parcel shelf that pump out eardrum-poppingly loud tunes (I've only ever put them on as high as they go about 4 times for a couple of seconds just to test/show my mates) but the last owner obviously didnt get it done professionally because theres absolutely no sound from the front spealers whatsoever. Good luck with the work!!

Those are the rear Speakers i want to get! Have you seen the threads on here about this. Theres one where i put pictures of the back of the head unit for some1, and where to put the cable which runs into the boot. It should help if you want to do it yourself - cheaper that way. I found a site which is cheaper. £45 i think, inluding delivery.

If you've got 4 Speakers at the mo, and want to keep them all without cutting the existing cables, you need to buy the green wire loom from toyota (£15) which frees a channel, or should i say a plug in the back of the head unit. As yours stand, rear fade goes to the door Speakers and front fade goes to your windscreens. With the green loom the windscreen and door speakers become the front fade and the parcels become rear.

I'm stuck on how to connect the apline cable into the head unit. I might buy another door speaker cable if toyota let me and connect through that. You like me, you have a warranty so i wouldn't suggest cutting any existing cables, only additional.

Hello and Welcome Darryl :)

I bought the wiring loom (green wire) from Toyota, this plugs into the back of the standard head unit and splits off an extra set of wires. You plug the standard speaker wires back into the handy connector. Then with the extra one all I needed to do was chop off the connector left over and run the wires to the rear of the car... hook them up to 6x9s and hey presto... :hokus-pokus:

I have an amp in mine too, as well I got it cheap and I wasnt sure that the standard headunit would be happy driving all 6 Speakers... so I had some extra fiddly bits in mine too... but the essence is there..

Good luck :)
