Mp3

Hi again and sorry for writting another new topic, it is not my intention to abuse of this forum but I forgot to mention something important for me in the last topic:

is there any posibility of listening to an mp3 player in the news corolla? They no more bring a cassette player but neither an audio entry. My question is: is it easy and cheap to create one?

I have heard that other posibility is to by an small radio transmisor that you will connect to your mp3, and it will send FM waves so you just have to find it in your radio FM.

The problem is that it will not be heard very well because all the frequenzees are busy in big towns so there will be interferences.

For example new Aygo brings already an audio entry; Toyota has not been very accurate by forgentting this little detail in corolla...

Thanks

Yes this is possibe possible using an Griffin iTrip :-

http://www.griffintechnology.com/products/itrip/

or something very similar, but using such an FM transmtter in the UK is 100% illeagal (not sure about Spain) and as you say less than satisfactory where the airwaves are a bit crowded.

Though I do know these do actually in practice work very very well in rural areas like where I live.

Many other manufacturers are as lax as Toyota for not including a 'line in' to their in car systems so I am not sure it is fair to single out Toyota for this ommission on all but their very latest models......

Question is, how hard is it to add an external audio jack? Haven't seen anybody try this on a Corolla, but Coastal Dave has managed to add an external video input to the Prius, so how hard can it be?

Not possible as far as I know unless you change your head unit.......

I have been trying to find a solution and some guy told me it is possible to install the audio output in the place where the cd charger (optional equipment in spain) would be.

I will let you know if it works.

P.S. Of corse it would not be fair criticising toyota for not including this in new models, as far as not any other one does it, but toyota is a brand from which i would expect more than from others...

Is not the optional multi CD changer unit on the new Corolla an intergreated 'all in dash' set up???

I didn't think you could get a seperate multi CD changer unit to mount in say the boot or golve box, that is unless you get one of the third party types (Sony used to make one) that utilises the FM aeriel input.

I would be really interested in a seperate boot mounted unit to upgarde my single slot in dash CD in my 2004 t-sport but always understood the only (very expensive) route would be to completely replace the single slot unit with the one that looks very similar but has the ability to take 6 CD's. If you have the model no. for the seperate muli CD changer type that can be 'wired in' to the std. unit could you post it here.

Many thanks.

I've got a Sony 6 CD changer fitted to my head unit (standard Toyota one). The changer is under the passenger seat for convenience  but I suppose it could be put in the boot instead... just needs a bit more wire. It didn't seem to be that expensive to install either.

If you want to listen to an ipod on a Toyota head unit then I think the only option is to buy an fm transmitter for your mp3 player. Technically it's illegal to use one in the UK (TMK no one has ever been arrested for this though) as it contravenes our archaic broadcasting regulations. The sound quality is reasonable and usually you won't have a major reception problems with tuning as you can adjust the transmit frequency on the transmitter (or you could disconnect the external aerial completely and try installing a mini internal one? I think that should work better if you do experience any interference).

Try having a look at this:

IncarIpod

CobolMan

Well spotted I hadn't seen that one.

Would have been exactly what I wanted too but for some reason it is not listed as being compatible with my head unit.

Rather than set up another thread about this, I thought I would bring this one back to life!

Seems a while back several people were looking at these - did you ever find one that worked well in the Corolla? I am interested in buying a kit for my current stereo, rather than gutting out the old, and installing a brand new one, and I'm interested in knowing how these worked - what was the sound quality like? And did the ipod navigation integrate with the stereos, or not?

I've had the dension Ice:Link installed in my T-Sport for about a month now, I think its brilliant - with some flaws.

Top notch sound quality - the toyota stereo just treats it like a cd changer so you have to make playlists which it see's as seperate cd's if that makes sense. So navigation-wise the alpine's, pioneer's etc beat it hands down.

I've mounted it into the top armrest section with the dock included in the kit - this is ideal as it keeps it secure and out of the sight of scrotes!

Only problems I've come across is that the steering wheel controls on the T-Sport do not work very well (only volume - not track up/down) and it doesn't support id3 text either - think these are both limitations of the standard stereo.

Cheers

John

Interesting. I understand how it works - but I didnt realise it was playlist based, not that this is a problem - that's easy enough though, I'll get a program to do that!

Shame that it doesnt support id3 text and the remote though, those were both things I was hoping would work. But again, its not the end of the world, is it. I take it you cant move through the playlists using the remote either then?

Does anyone have any experience with one where you can use the corolla remote?

And, not to ask for too much - Yatesy, do you have any pics of how you have it mounted? I'd like to see what it looks like in practice!!

I'm really interested as well - some pics would be great if possible!

Also, who installed the system - I'm hoping to find a friendly Toyota dealer that will do it at the same time as installing the tweeters and/or subwoofer that you can get for the system.

Thanks,

David.

Will take some pics of my setup when I get back from work.

To switch playlists, you press either 1 or 2 on the stereo (these are labelled as disc up/down too).

You can also browse the ipod like you would normally - play whatever you want then put it back in the dock and navigate the tracks.

I think the reason why the steering remote doesnt work is that my car didnt have the cd changer option installed - so the wiring for the remote to change the changer isnt there - as it works on other toyota's I believe. I asked toyota about this but they didnt have a clue about what I was going on about! Neither did the people from dension - so I gave up!

The kit cost £115 from this site and I installed it myself as it was pretty simple to install once I managed to take the stereo out....

Cheers

John

EDIT: Here are the pictures, sorry about the quality - tis pitch black outside...
